Hello everyone, Well, this is my first shot at documenting my travels and the thoughts I have about them. As my family frequently charges, "You never call or write." And, I cannot argue with them. I am usually, no-always, guilty as charged. My first entry is very retro as I am backtracking my travels to catch you up to present day. Before I can begin, I must take a moment to acknowledge and thank Brenda Y, a friend I met who was working at the time, in Ilsheim, Germany. She introduced me to t...

... pressing apple cider, and selling wares. For some reason, a bulk of the shops sold Christmas ornaments which lent a festive air. The other specialty is schneeballs. A nearby town must be famous for pies because I'm pretty sure schnieballs are leftover pie crust balled together and dipped in some sort of goodness. They were alright. The hot chocolate was great. And, the owner spoke German, English, and Japanese, pretty cool. All in all, it was a good day.

Rothenberg Ob Der Tauber, Bavaria, Germany wilwayco... It's beautiful and charming but ask me in a few hours when the Elderhostel tour buses and their occupants have sent me over the edge. Anyway. My goal today is to discover the deliciousness of something called "schneeballs." They look chocolate and fried and should go great with beer.

Well that's all for now- I am in a tourist office that gives me 15 minutes free internet access and I have to steal it where I can get it. Auf Weidershen :)
Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Bavaria, Germany sql_spice... because we didn’t understand a word of it, we ate the local gingerbread delicacies, we shopped at the markets, we warmed up from the rain and had a cup of coffee, and eventually had dinner in a quaint, very authentic restaurant where he had traditional Franconian food and some of the local Tucher beer.

The next morning we had a nice breakfast at the hotel and headed out for our last day of ...
Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany the_stamms... in a TOY museum, what else would you expect?). After goofing off for the time we had in the museum, we headed back out on the town and explored the shops. Nuremburg has all kinds of little stores to pop in and out of (be careful though, if you are playing with a doll on a spring, you WILL be yelled at, I would know) and me and some of the rest of the group do plan on going back. After we ate a quick dinner (I had a steak-type sandwich and it was YUMMY) we hopped back on the train ...
Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany ab10... and took buses to Nuremberg. We visited the Zeppelin Field where the big Nazi Rallies were held and the Hall of Justice where the Nuremberg Trials took place. Bought a souvenir pin at Market Square and had cokes at a bistro while waiting for the bus to take us back to the ship.

Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany tucsonjohn... There was even an ex hab on the team (Andre Nasredine) who scored a goal for us! To make the night even better we won 6-2 with some awesome goals and awesome saves!

Very happy with our decision to return to Nuremburg for the hockey game we left the following morning for Vienna. It was a long trip so we cut it in half and spent a night in Linz, Austria. Another gorgeous place to pass right on through!
Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany ktchris... my coworker and her husband Gary took me under their wing to get settled to life in Germany and also life in the Army. The post at Katterbach/Ansbach is a series of several small kasernes in the vicinity and not one large post as in most military settings. The health clinic is in Katterbach while Behavioral Health is on Bleidorn post in Ansbach. Quickly decided I wanted to be in walking distnace to downtown Ansbach, a charming Bavarian ...
Ansbach, Bavaria, Germany manchasA week has gone by and I'm still trying to deal with out of control foam as I make my way through the various bottles of beer I purchased at the market. As luck would have it, however, Military.com which e-mails me regularly, featured an article in the latest mailing titled, "Beer and Fitness?" Can it Be?" Now isn't this right out of a fairy tale? To summarize "..... moderate beer consumption is actually ...
Ansbach, Bavaria, Germany kitchenshrink... in the form of sugar - for the trip. Imagine my surprise when a Werher's Original got the better of me and dislodged a crown while I was still at the train station. As my travel buddy said, "Good thing it wasn't your front tooth." Sounds like my GB/TB. And yes it did curtail some of the week end activities. Will be finding a dentist tomorrow. Bill can you schedule me in on February 7th or 8th? I did board the correct train this time and what ...
