Historical Traveler Reviews of Best Western Hollywood Hills Los Angeles
Most terrible night of my life
from A TripAdvisor Member
I was looking forward to our trip to Hollywood, but the hotel really ruined the trip.
First of all there was a terrible smell. The staff was friendly, but basically did not have much knowledge of the area or how to get places.
The diner downstairs was so noisy that it kept us awake all night.
Finally at 3am, we turned on the airconditioner to attempt to drown out the jukebox noise that was coming from below. The bathroom was old and didn't have a clean feeling. Bottom Line is that we'll never stay there again!
We had roaches
from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed there last weekend. The decor was refreshingly different -- retro couches and stars on the hotel room doors -- but there were roaches in room and bathroom. My friend, who slept in the bed nearest to the window, actually had roaches and ants in his bed. The next morning, we told the desk clerk and got 10 percent off. The hotel has an adjacent coffee shop, which was a cool retro hipster place. The bad part was that the non-hotel customers of the coffee shop park in the hotel parking spaces. We got back to the hotel at about 1 a.m. and found the diner packed and no parking spaces available. We complained and the desk clerk said he would get a car towed, but he just walked back and forth between the hotel and diner with a phone in his hand, pretending to take care of the problem. We had to wait for a coffee shop customer to leave. I'd probably stay there again because the location is good and it's cheap, but just beware. PS - We requested a non-smoking room and the room reeked with smoke. There was also an ash tray on the night stand. on second thought, maybe I'd find a more decent place to stay next time...
A lot of personality

Stayed at this hotel for two nights early September 2003. We were pleasantly surprised at the decor and atmosphere which was very modern, hollywood style. great location to melrose, sunset, hollywood blvd.
obviously not the omni, but for the room charge we got a good deal considering the rates of the other hotels nearby. great pool and attached cafe.
Typical 3-star hotel

We stayed at the Best Western Hollywood Hills on August 16, 2003. We picked the hotel because its within walking distance (less than 10 minutes ) from the Pantages Theatre. While the hotel is older and is in need of a facelift, we were pleasantly surprised with our room. We had a corner room which was very spacious and included a small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. Parking was free (a nice perk for this area). We had breakfast at the 60's style coffee shop (attached to the hotel). The food was good at the right price. The coffee shop is open 21 hours a day.
Great Price/Location!!
from SchoolyG
We were very pleasantly surprised. The room was spaciousand clean. The pool was adorable, the location was great, the staff was friendly and helpful and the price was excellent. We walked the "Walk of Fame" to a movie at the Chinese Theater (although the desk clerk suggested we take a cab back after midnight). The 101 Coffee Shop was fantastic, especially due to the great vegetarian options. We even caught our first celebrity sighting of the weekend there. This is definitely the first place I am checking next time we plan a trip to Hollywood.
Not as good as expected

I expected a much higher standard. It was just not as good as expected. The staff was okay, the room was okay. I read the internet site before and it sound much much better then it was.
Clean, Comfortable, Great Location
from A TripAdvisor Member
After reading the bad reviews before we took our trip, I was worried...but for no reason. Our room was clean & nice--nothing fancy, of course--but it was extra roomy being a corner room (302, I believe). The neighborhood was fine & we felt comfortable walking around. Location is great for the sights of Hollywood as well as being a central spot to check out other areas in L.A. As mentioned, the 101 Coffee Shop is great (both service and food) as it is hard to find another casual "sit-down" diner in Hollywood. We were very pleased with our experience here.
BW Hollywood

We chose this hotel for its proximity to the Greek Theatre. We found it reasonably clean and comfortable; we were given a large 2dbl room with kitchen for $129; unfortunately it overlooked the 101 freeway. If staying here again I would ask for one of the (possibly smaller) rooms in the second building that surround the pool. Free underground parking and great coffee shop with Hollywood hours: 7AM - 3AM!
Some things you should know
from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed in this hotel in August 2001. I must say I was taken aback by the seediness of the place. The staff was ok, but the area leaves something to be desired. It was by and large safe, but I had real reservations about being there. Also, there was the very distinct and punget smell of urine in driveway I had to walk across to get to my room.
On the plus side, you are relatively close to the subway system (2-3 blocks, about a 10 minute walk) and there's a Bally's Total Fitness center that is actually rather nice with lots of equipment and cardio machines, but then what would you expect in Hollywood.
Beware

Made online reservation to stay for a couple of days. On arrival, room we reserved was already occupied - given different room. Rain leaked thru the roof in this room soaking all our stuff. Had to move to different room. Staff first said we would not be billed for leaky room. Upon checkout changed tune and insisted we pay for both nights.
