Tuesday 28.05.2011 - We reached Padgetts after negotiating a traffic jam on the motorway, due to a crash we presumed as we saw an ambulance and police flash by with bells and whistles going off.

Durham and York
... 11th century Norman Cathedral of Durham. Unlike Westminster Abbey, the Cathedral was very decoratively clean on the inside. The windows were smaller, the construction stone more light in colour and not nearly as covered by inscriptions and tombs. Huge columns, decorated by simple patterns lined the nave and beyond. Day 10
... I like about the well-ordered and efficient Swedes and add all my own idiosyncracies and present the world with a fabulous mix of just about of everything. And probably nobody would complain that much at all. I just wish all Swedes would be as generous and accommodating to all those with roots abroad, not just "nice" (read: Western) immigrants. In fact, I'm more convinced than ever that I should launch "Föreningen Osvensk Stämning" ...
Airports and aeroplanes
... I keep having to double take at people. I need sleep. I walk up to my departure gate a few hours early to discover the chairs up there don't have arm rests so I can lay out across them :-) why did I not walk up here sooner?! I manage about an hour laid down with my eyes shut(almost sleep but not quite). I've been in Hong Kong airport for 9 hours and now my flight's been delayed another hour. Another hour?! Day 9
... concept of not having both double glazing and central heating (many, as I do, have triple glazing and very efficient central heating, especially in urban areas) so I understand why some of you may be scratching your heads in puzzlement. But this is the reality for many in the UK, and a lot of older people suffer a great deal each winter due to a lack of insulation, heating and adequate glazing.
