... colours of the trees and the brilliant green of the grass was amazing.
E failed to get any lunch as we discovered that 11:11 is a bank holiday in France and everywhere was closed! So we arrived at the hotel at 5:00 pm and were starving! We checked in and the owner kindly provided us with pate and bread and a glass of red....perfect!
... freshly squeezed orange juice, tea and coffee in silverware jugs, boiled eggs from the backyard chook pen, the local pig sausage with cherry tomatoes, and then french strawberries (M-N insists that no cheap ones from Spain are used) along with macaroons. What a weekend - first the Tour de France, then Bastille Day! We arrived at the final 10K marker for the TDF 3 hours early, and were rewarded with prime seating. And a 3 hour wait. Luckily we had picnic gear from Ben's mom and meat, cheese, and bread from the market. It later turned-out that if you want to stay in Lyon, you don't look up Lyon in the index- you look under Daidley (or something like that) ....don't ask... Also, you have to search initially under the names of the zones or areas first - like Rhone Valley, then the city, then the camp..... The French don't make it easy.
