... trout.
This little town ranks right up there with our favourites. We looked at buying property here two years ago, but since the folks fron Calgary have discovered it , prices have gone thru the roof. what used to be $15000 ten years ago is more like $500000 now, crazy.

Fort Steele, British Columbia, Canada scottiedogCrossed the Rockies, left Jasper National Park behind as we travel through the Kootenay region, past Fort Steele and stop at Cranbrook. Hope the truck is ready as promised tomorrow, we will drive to Kalispell once more and re-visit Eureka MT on the way. What gorgeous weather we have been granted!

Fort Steele, British Columbia, Canada swissbear... We stopped and tried to repair with no luck. Todd can talk and I can hear hm but he can't hear me. So, all you guys thinking this is the ultimate and you can talk and don't have to listen to the wife talk...not the same when you don't have anyone else to talk to. LOL
Never thought not talking would be so strange. At one point Todd even said it was weird to be alone in his helmet. LOL. Got to get this fixed before the next big bike trip.

Tomorrow....back home.

Cranbrook, British Columbia, Canada toddandshell... s –
together with the current locals wearing the costumes of the day and giving the
whole town a fantastically realistic atmosphere. The kids loved it and
especially the local steam train, which went on a half a hour trip out to the
surrounding countryside. Unfortunately we arrived late in the afternoon and missed all the activities laid on during the day. This is a recommended stop especially as eveyone has worked *************struct the cowboy era.
Cranbrook, British Columbia, Canada prieststrip... We cruised along admiring the massive stone peaks. We dropped down into a lake valley and navigated over land slides and majorly rocky ground. Parts so bad you had to push.

We ran into a Dutch couple who were loaded to the roof, making me feel a little smug about ditching some of my stuff earlier. I couldn't have deal with more wieght. The guy (Marten) even had a deer antler he found in Alaska. They had come from anchorage which was 4000 miles ...
Fernie, British Columbia, Canada jeydoublesyou... I saw a light on in one of the trailers and knocked on the door. A young guy appeared - a gruff redneck type - and I asked if it really was likely that there were bears around (I still clung to the idea that bears were a part of some huge Canadian wind-up). 'Heck yeah' he replied emphatically 'I saw one just this morning'. By now it was dark and I was seriously afraid. I contemplated going straight to bed without eating but I was ravenous with hunger. I took out my cheap ...
Fernie, British Columbia, Canada fintan... the real estate market and the community to decide if this is some where we could put down some roots. Fernie has gotten more expensive in recent years but compared to the cost of living in a lot of ski resort communities in the US...Fernie is still reasonably priced. Ideally we were looking to find homes priced under $200 000 dollars. It is possible to find homes in this price range....though we found a lot of those to be small, old, on small lots, with some ...
Fernie, British Columbia, Canada genkigoddess... just as the firemen started shouting "everyone out of the building". As I ran down the stairs the fire alarm at last started ringing. Outside there were three fire trucks and more could be heard in the distance. I lingered and speculated with some of the other tenants as well as bar/restuarant patrons who were forced to evacuate the building. Quickly the excitement wore off and it became freezingly apparent we would ...
