The past two days have been absolutely wonderful, even with the rains that have lingered (and even gotten worse). Wednesday, we traveled to a unique burial mound in the shape of a cross. A lovely walk through the woods sheltered us from the majority of the larger rain drops and the walking sticks we bought for our trips came in very handy on the muddy path. Drizzling all day today but warmer than yesterday. 106 miles with lovely scenery. Small rolling hills.

Got a little bit of a late start this morning but had a good time at Fort Ancient looking at the ruins of an ancient community. Lots of earthworks visible all around the region, two calendar mounds that marked the summer and winter solstices. Very good museum that went way past how the Paleo-Indians would have lived, although it gave lots of information about that as well. Moved into the wars with France and the British colonists as well, and spoke of some small communities ...

... and then Chillicothe, Ohio, and then West Virginia. Today we hit Highbanks Metro Park. There are two burial mounds and an earthwork here - rain kept us from hiking to those today, but we'll go back tomorrow. We did have time to see three snakes, and a skunk! Only got a picture of the one big snake - didn't hang around to get a picture of the skunk!!
