Historical Traveler Reviews of Best Western Europa-Downtown Montreal
Small but servicable
from roderules
I've stayed here before, usually on the same weekend. The rooms at the Europa are small. Just barely big enough for the bed with minimal walk around room. The bathrooms are oddly laid out. Finding foot room when you are sitting on the toilet is a challenge. If you are looking for a view from your room, look elsewhere. The gargantuan AC unit juts into the room to an alarming degree. As far as conveninence sake, the Europa is well placed in the downtown about a block and a half to the Metro. Parking is an outright rip off. I paid $17.00(CAD) a night. The beds were comfortable though, especially when one stumbles in at 4am. The night spots close at 3 in Montreal!
Small with Big Attitude

The positives, good location to Ste. Catherine & area, close to the main train station. However, the rooms remind me of Paris, that's not a good thing. They are very, very small - hope you don't have long legs in the bathroom (you'll understand later). The staff was very standoff-ish & provided very little assistance. Rooms were not ready on time. If your in Montreal to party, stay at this hotel, if not stay in old Montreal.
Excellent location

We stayed at the Europa just a few weeks ago for 3 nights and couldnt find much wrong with it. Okay, so the rooms were a bit caustrophobic and the window was tiny but for the price that was paid, it would be wrong to expect anything more. The hotel was clean, staff friendly and breakfast was provided so we were happy! And the location is excellent, very central!
All in all I would recommend it as long as you arent expecting sheer luxury.
Good Place to Stay

This here hotel is a real winner. The price was fair and the hotel was nice. Its location is the thing i liked the most considering it is in downtown montreal. The rooms are ok and the staff is quite nice but they are French. The hotel has two good restaurants inside it offering very fancy chinese cuisine and a steak house which makes good steak but not like you find here in Texas. All in all a good hotel.
Don't stay here

This is a dreadful place to stay. My boyfriend and I drove up from Boston and chose what we thought was a moderate class hotel. We were not expecting anything that superior, but even still we were disappointed by Hotel Europa. The hotel's decor is very tacky - the moment you step in the lobby you have the feeling of being in a bordello. The hotel's rooms are even more disgusting...small, dirty, and a window facing the other side of the hotel's back wall. The bathroom is so claustrophobic that you will have a problem to close the door - literally. If you bring your car be aware that parking is outdoors, across the street from the hotel. Very inconvenient. Staff is rude and unaccomadating. The only thing that redeams this hotel is its location - central downtown and directly off of Saint Catherine Street which is one of the main shopping areas.
Fair hotel

Excellent location in the city center, providing good facilities. Some of the staff could be more polite to costumers. Inside the hotel there is a steak house with good prices and nice food.
Never Again!

This hotel and it's staff has got to be posted as the worst of the worst. I have never been so badly treated as I was during my stay on Aug 2 - Aug 4. The hotel staff including their management need a long lesson on how to treat their customers...the people who are contributing to their paycheques...their own fellow Canadians!! Our 3 rooms were prepaid through a travel agent, and the hotel insisted that one of the rooms were not paid for and that we would have to pay again. Not to mention that we did not get our rooms until 4:30pm...and we were waiting since 3pm, which is supposed to be their check in time. I had to call my own travel agent...luckily they were open...and resolve this smack in the face myself. Not once did the hotel manager offer assistance...he did not care...according to him, he did not receive payment. Then, the staff started speaking in french thinking we did not understand....it's a bilingual country buddy....we all took french in school. SO RUDE, SO INCONVENIENT, NEVER NEVER WILL I, OR THE OTHER 5 PEOPLE WITH ME STAY AT A BEST WESTERN AGAIN.....AS FOR MONTREAL CITY...GOOD RIDDENS!!!
Bug alert!

We stayed at the Best Western at June 17th, 2003. Roomrate $129,- for a double (ex. tax). On arrival the room was okay, although a bit tacky.
At night though, after being in bed for about half an hour, we felt something creeping on our pillows. Some sort of flees!!! At reception they looked at us with disbelief, but luckily we had caught some of the little critters in a teabag. Although we were given another room (just as tacky) we didn't sleep a wink. We shortened our stay in Montreal because of it. Michael from the Netherlands
Would never stay again

We just stayed here in October and they only good thing about the place is the location. The room I stayed in was DIRTY. The wallpaper was halfway ripped off and many stray hairs found in the bathroom . Various debris sticking to the walls in the sleeping area as well. The carpet was gray and stained. I was afraid to touch the bedspread. The decor was a tacky midasian decor that did not appeal to me but was not clean!

Great location. Prices too high. Room ok. Staff ok. Breakfast buffet a rip off. Located near other great dining establishments.
