After an awful nights sleep it was a early rise and shine for moi 6.30 am up showered, dressed, breakfast ate, camp packed up and the van loaded and a lovely face time chat with the step pops :) 8am it was time to hit the road and get our kicks on Route 66 with temperatures set to soar to 37 degrees it should be a interesting day :) First stop we visited the blue whale, a huge blue plastic whale situated on a small murky lagoon, a roadside attraction in Catoosa built in 1972 ...

A shorter day planned to day, only 112 miles to Elk City. We drove into Oklahoma City to get back on the route but made a stop at the site of the Memorial for the victims of the 1995 domestic terrorist bombing of the Alfred P Murrah Federal Building.

Our next stop was Sid's Diner in El Reno, of 'Man Vs Food’ fame. This is a rather unimpressive little diner at first ...

Imagine our surprise when our red chariot cruises into the Clinton, Oklahoma, Route 66 Museum and we see a party going on. How did they know we were coming to town? I mean, we are famous and all. (Newt for his pitching, cooking, fast cars and me... well, I am famous for being Newt's son). No, not the one that could play ball, that would be Scott... I am the other one. Yes, I was the one that was good ...

... chief black kettle, who even after being betrayed by the white man once continued to seek peace through treaties that weren't followed. He and his wife were killed that day fleeing with many others. I can't help but think as I stand in the baking sun on this battlefield, how this white expansion lived up to the definition of invasive species as I knew it. Spreading rapidly, destroying diversity. Taking the resources and thus changing the lay of the land. As well as how ...

      Uneventful (?) Night #2

A travel blog entry by frankadventures on Dec 30, 2013

The morning started out at 14* as we left St. Clair about 8am. After about 3 hours, Richard let me drive just before we got to Joplin, MO. The trip across was very uneventful and blah as far as the scenery…all the trees were bare and all else brown. We saw lots of "cavern" and “antique” signs though!

We were on the OK ...
