The last minute packing is always the most stressful. Do we have too much? Did I remember that power cord? Who has the passports? But traffic to the airport was light today so we've made it to SFO. A little check-in chaos and then the security pat down and we will be wheels up to ...
... 15 days on the road, not met any lengthy tailbacks and the weather had been very kind to us. However leaving san francisco airport by plane wasn't so easy. We had a few delays. We were about to head off but pilot announced that there wasn't enough air in the tyres and a flashing alarm light on the instrument panel indicated we may have a faulty engine. So the tyres were pumped and the ...
... We hopped from one shady spot to the next, trotting as urgently as the oppressive heat would allow. And we thought it had paid off - we hopped up the steps to the tower entrance at 3:50 on the dot - just enough time to catch the elevator and spend a few minutes enjoying the view. A German couple, and a trio with a baby appeared at the same time as us, and together we entered the cool, marble sanctum and the ticket desk. One of the young women in the trio approached ...
It took several cool, wet, and ugly mornings but I finally realized that in California, it's useless to pull out a camera before noon. We drove into San Francisco, arriving at about 930 AM. The wharf area is extremely busy because of it being Memorial Weekend and 75th Anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge. It makes it harder to get around, but there is a real festive atmosphere and loads of street performers.
It's been harder for me to find food I can eat here as a lot of eating places don't seem to ...

We travel often but have to drive several hours to reach the San Francisco airport. El Rancho is the place to stay. There is free shuttle service 24hrs/day every half hour. Rooms are clean and comfortable with free wi-fi and you can park up to 14 days for free ($5/day thereafter). Upon your return, if you chose to stay another night, you get a substantial discount on your room. We've been doing this several times a year for about 10 years now and wouldn't think of staying elsewhere.
