... Kenora, we stayed in Anicinabe campground (again) and had the camp managers, Larry & Nancy Cruikshank, over for supper and a visit – they’re heading for Florida for the winter as well. When we left a couple days later it was still raining – yikes. The very nice and gently undulating highway between Kenora & the US border is lined with rocks, muskegs, lakes, Indian territory, hunting/fishing camps and ...

It was supposed to be warm

What was meant to be a warm camping trip where we could swim and enjoy the sun turned into a cold time, with gale storms to add to the mix. It was still a good time nonetheless.

We went beyond Duluth to a place called Boundary Waters. A place my wife wants her family to see, reminiscing of her summer in Minnesota. We took ...

Ace of Aces & a 1000 foot ship.

The Apostle Islands Rally has come to an end so we said goodbye to our BAC friends on Wednesday and made the short drive back west to Dultuh. We settled into our new 'home' at Ogstons RV park and proceeded to take the afternoon off.

The city of Duluth and it's neighbor to the east, Superior Wisconsin, are known as the twin ports. Both ...

Aunt Isabel and Family

We are off at just past 9 am from the Super 8. We had a quick continental breakfast in the motel and now are on the road. We thought we were only 290 miles from Superior according to the hotel listing in the GPS but when we say Go there it jumps to 380 miles. We decide the points of interest listing mileage numbers must be as the crow flies and not driving miles. Oh well, a bit longer drive than we had anticipated.

Some highlights:
1) Brady playing ...

Car Cooking Update

ENGINE COOKING – Can't remember if I have posted this or not… The cooking under the hood is working out pretty well! The first day was the worst, though. We cooked turkey breast with veggies but I left it on too long and it was dried out but certainly edible. Actually, part of my trouble was that I forgot and left the foil package under the hood for an extra hour and a half after we arrived while I chatted ...

More big ships

... and monuments, and unlike the Canadians they didn’t fleece us for an entry fee, and parking was free. A bit of a moan here…. In Canada we purchased a National parks pass for something like $145 CDN, and that gives us access to all the parks, but there is a catch that those tricky Canucks don’t tell you, often there are additional parking charges, which really offends my sense of fairness. End of moan!!!

Now the road heading south along the shores of lake superior ...

Just about home!

We have had absolutely beautiful weather, sunny and mid 70's.

Saturday: We stopped by Rugby, ND to a Prairie Village Museum. It was interesting.
Also, a little history, Rugby is the center point of North America. We stayed at Green Acres Campground in Lakota, ND.

Sunday: We drove ...

Scenery to delight a Fenlander

... miles before we entered the paper-mill town of Grand Rapids where there was the largest pile of logs I have ever seen - 50 ft high and about quarter of a mile long. The other highlights of today were getting the car washed at the geographical centre of North America, re-crossing the Mississippi, and buying a coffee thermos in the town where Judy Garland was born.  Nuff said!

Day One Alaska 2009

I should have known something was up when Val came home with a new red collar with white bone print. I was clueless even though the collar sported a new shiny gold tag with my name, Dave's name and Dave's phone number on it. The gold bells on the collar really should have been a signal, but after all I'm just a Beagle albeit a smart one. Val ...

Duluth

This was another early start, leaving the house at 07:00 to be in plenty of time for our flight to Duluth. We were scheduled to fly on North-West from Helena at 08:20 to Minneapolis/St Paul, then to catch the 13:15 flight to Duluth arriving there at 14:24. We checked in early and decided to go through security in plenty of time, which was fortunate. After we both took off our shoes, Ruth also had to take off ...
