... and the other half driving east to see historic Route 66, we were able to drive straight to Tucumcari. We ate at a diner, cancelled our reservation at the Blue Swallow Motel, and checked out Teepee Curios. We even had time for the Mesa Dinosaur Museum, which was a lot of fun. Now we officially started our Route 66 self-guided tour. We began from Tucumcari, NM with the hopes of checking out their dinosaur museum. Unfortunately, the museum was closed due to it being a Monday as well as a holiday. The rest of the city was not impressive so we decided to move on back to TX via the historic Route 66.

Of all the neon signs along 66, this one is probably the most famous. Even people not that familiar with 66 might recognize this one. Unfortunatley, we pulled in for the night and the sign is turned off. We new that the hotel was closed until spring but hoped it ...

... preparing mentally and physically for another day of driving. Google says it is 5 1/2 hours drive to OKC, plus I lose 2 hours changing time zones. I haven't had to eat out too much as I brought food with me and have been munching on it since I left. I will get on the road now before it gets too hot.
