          A great find

Flying in late and leaving early we wanted something simple and clean and convenient. This hotel was great. They offer shuttles from the airport to their hotel and the next morning took us to the local car rental location. The room was huge. I had to go back down and ask if they had upgraded us as it looked like a junior suite, but no, it was just their king room. There is a nice lap pool and fitness center. The breakfast in the morning was enough to get us going. The staff were all polite and helpful. The neighborhood was quiet and comfortable. We walked late at night to the nearby Domino's pizza and felt safe. I have no reservations in recommending this location.

Très grande chambre, très propre. Frigidaire et micro-onde. Internet sans-fil et surtout sans problème. À quelques kilomètres du métro pour aller en ville. Restaurant familiale à 2 pas.

While in Chicago we spent a day in the city. First taking a cruise into Lake Michigan then a Hop On Hop Off bus to check out the city streets. We stayed out near the airport and the cab ride into town wasn't cheap or quick, but it had to be done.

So our 5 week trip comes to an end!!

We started out in Canada touring through the …

... br> Feeling satisfied that I'd had the true Chicago initiation I headed downtown the next afternoon on a gloriously sunny day (after nervously watching Arsenal scrape past Wigan on penalties). Luckily Leah was visiting home from New York so I was able to have my own little free tour around the Millenium Park area. Nice one.
I know that you probably think a lot of my trip has been based around food, no idea where you got that from, but I genuinely came to Chicago for the ...

... I mentioned earlier. At the height of the flood some buildings had 12 metres of water at their lower levels, but the water was not seen at ground level, all of it unfolded underground. They had to shut down all gas and electrical lines to the city centre for fear of electrical wiring shorting out. They couldn't even figure out where the water was coming from until a radio reporter noted a whirlpool effect near the Kinzie Bridge, and the fact that there were fish swimming in ...

... walk in quite humid conditions we were surprised to find the restaurant and bar packed with people even at 6:00pm. We were told that our wait for a table would be about 45 minutes, so we propped at the bar with a drink each; we had not finished that first drink before we were taken to an outside table for our meal. We all chose the ribs, which were incredibly tender - the meat fell off the bone when cut. Diners who chose ribs could have either a full or half slab, accompanied by one ...

... the whole hour. The stories - performances might be a more apt description - were all incredibly cute. I heard the Haitian tale of the horse and the toad (the hare and the tortoise), a zimbabwean story about a sick chief and a magic snake whose sole purpose seemed to be to ask the children what their favourite soup was (pumpkin was a clear favourite?!), and some fables of Anansi (sic), the tricksy, instrument-playing spider who hides from tiger in a loft because he ate tiger's ...
