... from Game of Thrones, with red hair and a beard) took us around to our suite, with a private entrance, and inside we were met with a low plank coffee table, modern, understated couch, HUGE fireplace with a small wood stove set in it, leather armchairs….and the bedroom boasts a king sized bed, beautifully made up, and a claw foot bathtub in the bathroom.

Of course after dinner we had to visit The Crypt (the bar) for a wee ...

Mary and I love Durham city. We also like the surrounding area of Seaham and Murton. Lots of history and you get a real feel of how the people in Northern England worked and the changes they have been through, especially since the end of the coal mines, railways, ship building etc.

The Durham Cathedral was built in 1093 to house the shrine of St Cuthbert who was from Lindisfarne - another great place to visit.

We took a walk that went around Durham, ...

The morning started with a gourmet breakfast in the conservatory - man, they are serious about their breakfasts here. Jacquie also sent us off with bag lunches, as she said there aren't any/many places on the walk today for a lunch stop. A quick goodbye to our hosts, and time to head to Corbridge. I opted to rough it and keep my pack for today (but admit I offloaded my toiletry bag and sandals to Tom's bag) - sure hope the other packs make it to the next destination! It was a beautiful ...
