A little after an hour an the road today and we made our first stop at

We took the first parking circle off to the right and walked out on the
break wall. Except for all the tiny insects, it was a nice walk. I'm

A travel blog entry by mountaingirlz on Jun 30, 2015

It raining now, with no hopes of clear sky in sight. It's a perfect driving day to get more miles behind us. We are now at 1103 miles and GPS says 467 miles to go! Mara and are getting a chuckle out of UP MI convenience store supplies....about a dozen different kinds of whiskey ...

We continue to make our way east, next stop the Upper Peninsula of the state of Michigan to the city of Marquette. The population was 21,355 at the 2010 census, making it the most populated city of the UP. Note: the entire UP only has a little over 311,000 residence. Marquette is a major port on Lake Superior, primarily for shipping iron ore (see picture below of train dock), and is the home of Northern Michigan University. In town we saw T- shirts and signs with "Yooper" ...

... us to gooseberry jam and delish oatmeal cookies! (Note: flour from Bob's Red Mill in Milwaukie is used!!!). A road sign near Houghton, MI, referenced a 390" snowfall 35 years ago, and this last winter, they were below this record by just 3"!!! Hot and muggy days were rough with no AC, so appreciated Marquette's Ford dealer who fixed us ...
