Day 26: Corolla, Fireworks, and Steak

Howdy y'all! Big news (well, relatively, because today was mostly a driving day). We got rid of "baldy," our treadless Mazda 5, and switched into a Toyota Corolla. I'm going to miss the room that we had in the other minivan, but at least this car doesn't shake at high speeds! Peace of mind is a wonderful thing! We headed out of our La Quinta Inn room and found a restaurant that made really good ...

      Ugly crust, but tasty pie

After a bit of a late start from the Blue Swallow, the two Nista Boys got caught talking... go figure.

We began our adventure in search of truth, in search of justice ; really we were in search of pie; ugly crust pie. I seem to have led us on a special Nistafied detour. I really wanted to see how the rocks and lizards interacted with each other on abandoned dirt roads. I know ...

We arrived around 1pm to our campground after marveling at the changing landscape from flat Texas to rolling, scrubby New Mexico. The temperatures here are better than in Texas, though we had to admit that Amarillo wasn't too bad (not as bad as we'd expected). Today's high was 84 with the low of nearly 68 overnight. Tomorrow is slated to be 81. While the temperatures don't seem too high, we are aware that we are at a high elevation (higher than Denver at nearly 7600 ft.) so the sun ...

Samo miasteczko Adrian nie jest imponujące, ale zawiera ważny punkt w podróży drogą 66, to Mid Point - geograficzny środek tej niezwykłej trasy. Kilka zdjęć i kilka pamiątek no i ruszamy dalej, bo na granicy stanu Teksas i Nowy Meksyk jeszcze jena atrakcja - Glenrino. Glenrino to typowe ghost town, czyli miasto widmo, jakich wiele przy drodze 66. ...

Day 10, Yes, we found our way to Amarillo

... or south side for most of the way so we didn't miss anything in particular. As we crossed into the Panhandle we came off and drove down the Route through desperately poor areas, small ghost towns just empty with boarded up buildings and a few people shuffling along the main streets. There seem to be few work opportunities and everyone has left. We used the frontage road as, so often in our trip, borders the Interstate road. It is so flat, you can literally see to ...
