Diamonds and Rust - and some Cadillacs

Well I'll be damned, here comes your ghost again ...

So begins Baez's "Diamonds and Rust", a song which is #2 on my all time playlist of songs I turn to when I want an emotional jolt. (#1 is Jackson Browne's "Looking into you" and #3 is Bob Seger's "Turn the Page" ... but I digress.)

There are no Cadillacs at Cadillac Ranch. Not anymore. But there are some interesting ghosts.

The story in brief: a couple of ...

Stopped to take our picture at the Midpoint maker of Route 66, and then had pie. Several people recommended the Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie it was sooooo good. Allana dropped her wallet in the toilet so she got out of paying for her pie. Now all her money is laying on the dashboard drying out. I said no thanks to her offer in the gift ...

Howdy y'all! Big news (well, relatively, because today was mostly a driving day). We got rid of "baldy," our treadless Mazda 5, and switched into a Toyota Corolla. I'm going to miss the room that we had in the other minivan, but at least this car doesn't shake at high speeds! Peace of mind is a wonderful thing! We headed out of our La Quinta Inn room and found a restaurant that made really good ...

          Ugly Crust, but Tasty Pie

After a bit of a late start from the Blue Swallow, the two Nista Boys got caught talking... go figure.

We began our adventure in search of truth, in search of justice ; really we were in search of pie; ugly crust pie. I seem to have led us on a special Nistafied detour. I really wanted to see how the rocks and lizards interacted with each other on abandoned dirt roads. I know ...

We arrived around 1pm to our campground after marveling at the changing landscape from flat Texas to rolling, scrubby New Mexico. The temperatures here are better than in Texas, though we had to admit that Amarillo wasn't too bad (not as bad as we'd expected). Today's high was 84 with the low of nearly 68 overnight. Tomorrow is slated to be 81. While the temperatures don't seem too high, we are aware that we are at a high elevation (higher than Denver at nearly 7600 ft.) so the sun ...
