Bath baby!

... pretty streets, especially when all the Christmas lights are up, is a lot of fun.

On the Saturday afternoon we went on a bus tour to Stonehenge and the town of Lacock. Stonehenge was impressive, but the presence of hundreds of tourists, a highway nearby and the fact you can't get very close to the stones does marr the experience somewhat. It doesn't feel all that magical or spiritual.

I didn't know anything about Lacock, but am really glad I ...

3,882 Christmas Boxes hit the road...

Today several Trussell Trust staff and volunteers have bruised upper arms from loading hundreds of boxes filled with a reocrd breaking 3800+ Christmas Shoeboxes onto a rather large lorry... The bruises were worth it to see the lorry pull away and begin its 2,450km trip to Bulgaria to transform thousands of Christmases.

We have to say a huge thankyou to all those who donated boxes and to all those hardy souls who braved the cold in ...

Time To Take A Bath!

... dating from 1675, it was awarded “The UK’s Top Tea Place 2009” by the UK Tea Guild. Serious stuff.

Refreshed by our tea stop, we walked through the town park and over a quaint old bridge to the Saxon Church. This church, named the Church of St. Laurence, dates as far back as 709 AD! It’s a characteristic Anglo-Saxon building – tall and narrow with small windows and a simplistic, non-ornate interior. It was neat to contrast ...

UPDATE

Well 7 weeks to GO!!!!

June is still busy buying clothes can't keep her out the shops. We are busy trying to set up all the systems we need in place and staff what they need to do in our absence.

Great finding so many people interested in what we will be doing and where we are travelling to.

Just want to get Junes problem sorted at the hospital they are messing us about. Got heavy with them today.

Watch out for the next update.

Stonehenge to Bath to London

After Stonehenge, we started driving towards Bath which is a couple of hours away, so the driver gave us a bit of a tour on the way there. We saw things like the "worlds smallest prison", and a horse scraped into the side of a hill exposing white soil? beneath the grass. Apparently it was put there to signify if you were in a certain kingdom or not (forget the king's name of that area). We also learned that the Red Lion Pub is the most ...

Some stones and a nice, warm Bath.

... Irish whistle whilst his pups played around him, and a mechanical man who made funny noises. I put some money in each of their jars, as I felt some kinship with them. I know what it's like to be an entertainer, and have even sung on the street with friends for some extra money, and these humble gents were good at their jobs. It felt good to see people leaving them with smiles on their faces, surely now with a good memory or two. I stumbled upon an interesting ...

... which had us walking around for 2 hours. That night we slept for over twelve hours and woke up the following afternoon, despite being in a dorm room! Didn't do anything but recover from the previous day and plan our trip around the UK. We realised that Wimbledon started soon, so decided to head out of town for a week and then come back and try to get tickets. We headed east to our first stop, Bath. A very cool town. Most of it was built in the 18th ...

Pride and Predjudice

... being a faculty member-they didn't believe me), I was almost in tears when I went to the International office. But lo and behold-THEY HAVE A FAX MACHINE!!! SUCCESS IS MINE!! 4. If you have a problem with someone's behavior (ie your flat mate's) get over your own pride and prejudices (haha i had to tie it into the title somehow) that you have against this person or persons and solve the problem otherwise it creates a lot of unnecessary drama. So anyway, after a week ...

... they were getting plenty from the other tourists, so I passed on the entrance admission and continued strolling. I walked along the Pulteney Bridge, which was constructed in 1774 and has shops on both sides. On the other end, some men were playing cricket. I tried to watch, but don't understand it for the life of me. So I continued onward in search of the Jane Austen Centre, which I never did ...

Stonehenge

... bus takes me from Stonehenge to Bath, a Georgian city situated very close to the border with Wales. I am fascinated by its cobbled streets, grey stone houses, cute bridges and an interesting cathedral. Most of the time, however, I spend in the Roman Baths, which are so huge that after a few hours I get bored and only think of getting out of here. The Roman Baths are, well, baths used by the Romans, and the water inside is STILL WARM.
