Historical Traveler Reviews of Best Western Chateau Granville Vancouver
Less than impressed
from A TripAdvisor Member
I have to admit that this hotel was not very expensive (although with parking charges, it added up), so one shouldn't expect too much, however, I was really disappointed. I was placed in the Courtyard section which was across the back alleyway from the main hotel, meaning I had to go up and down a series of stairs with my heavy bag, which was very difficult. The alleyway was disgusting, and smelled so badly of urine that whenever I entered or exited the area I had to hold my breath as to not throw up (I am not exagerrating). I also had to be careful to not get hit by a car whenever exiting the courtyard area. The location is ok, the street it's on is not great, but Yaletown's a few blocks off, so that's good. I had one meal in the restaurant; the food was on par with my high school cafeteria. I didn't have any problems with the service like others had, my problems were with the hotel.

This hotel has alot going for it eg. nice rooms, cheap rates, some friendly staff!!!!. The menu was not very appealing but after my wife and I ordered we were very impressed about our dinner good portions great flavour, and we didn't have to wait along period of time for our meal, What appauled my wife and I was the fact that in the lounge it seemed like a lot of regular customers sitting around the bar who seemed to know more what was going on in the hotel than the employee's did some of them were even throwing digs at other employee's that worked at the hotel. my wife and I where staying there as we were running in the vancouver marathon. we would stay here again but not enter the lounge as this appauled us considerably.
Dirty

very dirty place. badly needs a makeover and new staff.( and new menus in rest) we arrived to find out our 160$ room was tiny and shabby. elevators were dirty, hallways dirty
we were not impressed!
the view was nice but that is about it
staff rude and bordering on obnoxious
we even had our car broken into IN THEIR LOCKED UNDERGROUND GARAGE how is this possible
when we asked about this it was simply : we accept no resposibility for items left in the car" I had left nothing in the car, nothing was stolen, just a broken window
so i had done exactly what i was supposed to and still got broken into
they wouldnt even refund my parking charge
i hate best western
and you should too
What a Deal

Excellent, clean, well kept hotel, and it was only 80 bucks a night off of Expedia. The bedroom was well kept, with its own tv, there was another room with a small fridge, microwave, desk, couches, and even a balcony. The Bathrooms were kept clean too. Like most Downtown Vancouver hotels, this one is in the middle of all the action tho, and you could hear yelling by drunk people on the street level outside the hotel. Other than that this place was perfect. I recommend it for anyone.
It was okay, but ..........

A few weeks ago, I stayed at this hotel.
I liked it, it was very clean, nicely decorated rooms, with coffee maker, fridge, iron and ironing board in room, etc. Quite comfortable with nice views looking toward Stanly Park, also.
The maids who cleaned up the rooms were very efficient and courteous. Nice ladies.
The only drawback to this hotel was the staff at the front desk. They were abrupt, unfriendly....they weren't the type of people you would feel comfortable asking a question, for fear of being snapped back at. If I were the manager, I would dump them and get someone more courteous. At least make the visitor feel welcome, for crying out loud!
Other than that, it is worth looking into this hotel for your stay; prices were reasonable and in-line, considering that Vancouver is becoming a more and more expensive city to vistit. Hotel is ideally located downtown.
One of the Best

The Chateau Granville has a lot going for it. Many of the staff have been there for years and will welcome you back with a sincerely friendly smile. The rooms/suites are clean and comfortable and offer all the amenities you may need. It's a nice place with nice people.
Enjoyed the stay

We stayed 2 nights and really liked it. The room was huge and very comfortable. The hotel employees were very pleasant and helpful (great restaurant recomendations). We were in the "courtyard" area behind the main hotel, down an alley and behind a locked fence. This was somewhat intimidating at first, as was the "homeless" atmosphere of the area. But, we really enjoyed it after a few hours. The courtyard garden area was somewhat dis-assembled because of the construction next door, but the room was priced accordingly. Would definitely go back, enjoyed the stay.
Great Hotel

We needed a lot of space since there were five of us staying overnight (2 adults 3 teenage kids!). We found the room very comfortable. We used the hideabed sofa and a rollaway bed in the living room and appreciated the two full size beds in the bedroom. We really wanted laundry facilities and a pool, but the hotel had neither. We did find a coin laundry 6 blocks away. Didn't have time for swimming anyway. Be aware that you have to pay an extra $10 for parking each night you stay. The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly and helped in any way we asked. Good at giving directions downtown. The area is kind of scary at first, but once in the hotel, you feel very safe and secure. Once you get used to the area it's o.k. Extremely busy night-life. Doesn't quiet down until about 5:00a.m.! We would stay there again.
Very nice rooms with views!

would reccomend this downtown vancouver hotel for a great bargain. although granville is not the most prestigious address in vancouver it is definately the most central and the best place to locate yourelf if you wish to be in the center of all the action. this is a high rise hotel with a rather bland yet efficient lobby. 2 fast elevators bring you to your hi-rise room. i payed a very low rate of 75cdn per night and received one of the best bargains of my entire travels last year. the room was a one bedroom suite. the fist room was a living room with sofa bed. it was a nicely set up floor plan with an L shaped soaf and cofee table on the left and an intergrated desk and workstation with a fax machine and shelving for your work to the right. the wall to wall windows offered a breathtaking view of downtown vancouver matched only by the more expensive hotels in town. the bathroom was large and fully equiped. the bedroom featured a large king bed, armoire and another tv and window. the rooms were very large and nicely layed out.. alomst like a nice apartment! i would definately reccommend this nice, modern, clean hotel to any buisness or pleasure traveler. this room would easily accomidate a family of four. i think this was a terrific bargain and i would definately stay here again.
Once I gave it a chance

I was some what concerned about the area as I drove up but once I was in the hotel I was very impressed! The room was a beautiful one bedroom suite which I found out was like 80% of the rooms in this hotel. The rooms were clean very well decorated two tv's(bedroom and livingroom handy to get the kids out of my hair for a while)The staff was great telling us about sites and restaurants and good advice about the odd pan handler you will find on Granville st. I was alot less concerned about the area once I got around a bit. I will stay there again.
