... more importantly, I've also bought myself a new paddle board which is 7'5" long and about 80 liters, it's a Jimmy Lewis super tech board. It's very challenging to stand on and almost impossible to paddle out through the surf and I mostly have to paddle the board out prone. But I am quite excited about learning to duck dive the SUP, as it's low enough volume which I believe I'll be able to do, we'll see!

Setting off north now on a sunny Sunday morning with cloud obscuring the peak of Mt. Taranaki we turned left off SH3 at Stratford onto the Forgotten World Highway, so named because it passes through areas designated for development and with past history of coal mining and railways, including on place, some ways off the road where a bridge was built but has no roads connecting it and is called the Bridge to Nowhere! ... a cool 22C ish, yet, if you go searching in the sand exposed at mid to low tide, you find hot patches, dig deeper and you can get your own hot tub set up…… no need to buy one and pay loads of money to heat it up! In fact the one that the kids and I dug was so hot you weren’t able to stay in it for more than a few seconds; we had to let surface run in’s drain into the dug pit to cool it down. So we built our own natural spa, a ...

... around the area . Once we had got ourselves settled we proceeded to visit the Maori Museum. A fabulous building built in the early 1900's as a hospital to utilise the healing properties of the thermal waters . In the basement are still the remains of the equipment and baths used for this purpose. The Maori exhibition is very enlightening, and the myths and legends although far fetched are very entertaining.
