... was saw the new 'Spirit of Queensland' (replacing The Sunlander). It looks like the tilt train. We have seen it twice now, as the railway line is just across the road from the caravan park. Not close enough to bother us with noise though (thank goodness).

Ray also drove the car today for the first time in over two weeks. Angela was happy for him to do the drive home, as the traffic in Cairns is quite busy and frustratingly slow at times.

After a 7 hour straight forward flight from Hong Kong we arrived in Cairns (Northern Queensland) at 5am and thankfully we were able to check in early at the Tropical Heritage Hotel and get some shut eye. We were expecting Cairns to be bigger than it was however as it turned out we were only a short walk from the Esplanade and were able to walk central Cairns in 20 minutes. This all makes sense as the population is only 170,000. For much of the rest of the day we planned ...

... sight of blue skies, evening sunshine, people exercising on the outdoor equipment and children playing in this amazing ‘lagoon’. The lagoon was something similar to the Brisbane man-made beach, but this one was on much a larger scale, with an ‘infinity pool’ feeling running into the sea. At the caravan park we went to the pool and had a swim, we
got to ride on the go karts for an hour, we had one each and we kept swapping,
we ran around the park. We got to do mini golf and there is a water park, we stand
under the big bucket and get soaked, there is heaps of water. It was fun in the
