* We left Butte early this morning and marveled at another drive through the Rockies. We headed east towards Bozeman, passing the headwaters of the Missouri River. We turned south off I-90 at Livingstone, Montana and followed the Yellowstone River. The mountains on both sides of us were snow-capped and in around 10,000 and 11,000 feet high. We reached Gardiner about 1 pm. We stopped for lunch at a place called the Town Cafe - both of us had buffalo burgers (yes, made from buffalo) - very good...
Gardiner, Montana, United States beverlyksWe started our return trip from Yellowstone National Park to Gardiner about 6:30. It took us close to 2 hours to get back partly because of picture taking moments, and partly because of the low speed. We both were both glad to get back to the hotel, tired(and sunburned) but thrilled with the day we had. Tomorrow, we head out for Deadwood South Dakota, backtracking through Livingstone to get back on the Interstate (I-90)

Gardiner, Montana, United States vera_und_alex... us that they were going before us but neither Cynthia nor I could hear. I was getting agitated when I lost my friend, so I walked fast, got back to the visitor center, asked the Ranger how long the other trail took. He replied that he was pretty sure it’s 0.5 miles. So I was half running down the steps. No, Cynthia wasn’t there. So I took some time just walking in the loop. Later Michelle and Gary ...
Gardiner, Montana, United States astreWe were a day early getting to our reserved spot at the Yellowstone North entrance so this site was recommended to us. It was a nice relaxing park right by the Yellowstone River. The river is swift flowing and not very deep. It seems like most of the people here flyfish and the current moves them swiftly north and I am not quite sure how they get back it seems like a heck of alot of rowing.

Didn't do much today but relax.
Emigrant, Montana, United States psandefur... to Yellowstone National Park, the 1st American National Park! It was a beautiful sight to begin with. From the trees and the animals to the geysers and yellow stones, you can tell that all of this belonged to Yellowstone and nowhere else. It was sad, however, to see that half of the forest was burned down from the 1988 wild fires. They are still in their current, darkened state. But I heard that after 100 years, new ...

It's kind of run down now a days. But it serves great pizza and in a fun atmosphere with an old school jukebox and pool tables.

K Bar rocks.
Gardiner, Montana, United States breezyfresh... of Pizza, we came back to the hotel to be picked up for an evening tour of Historic Buffalo Ranch (this is where they bred the buffalo (bison and buffalo are the same) in the early to mid 1900s to bring back up the count of the bison in Yellowstone. It definitely worked, because we saw them EVERYWHERE. In fact, on our first day in Yellowstone, we met up with a bison that was walking on OUR side of the road. We ...
Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, United States keggebeen... times and the 45th Parallel (which is the half way point between the Equator and the North Pole). We ended the day by visiting Sheepeaters Cliff. There Brooks was able to climb on some really old lava formations. We also came across what looked like a beaver living in the lava formations. All in all, the south part of Yellowstone was really nice since it offered a vast range of views: mountains, grasslands, lava fields, geyser fields, boulder fields ...
Gardiner, Montana, United States feldjoe... and then I got a couple of books at a used book store (2 books-$.35). Things were cheap here.
I got a bunch of stuff at a hardware store that had auto parts. I had checked the spark plug wires and saw that they were a big part of the problem. For those who don't know you use to run the engine when it was dark and you could see if the cables were bad by the flashing crossfire along the cables. Mine could have been lighting ...
