... magma chambers, water and various minerals do. Also similar to Yellowstone is the strong smell of sulphur everywhere! Oh well, small price to pay for some of the very spectacular sites.

Continuing South from Rotorua we came to Lake Taupo and the town sharing the same name. Roughly 28 miles long and almost equally wide at it's northern end, this beautifully clear lake is actually the crater of a volcano that erupted less than 2,000 ...
New Plymouth, North Island, New Zealand abcanares... who wanted nothing more than to finish his scuba certificate, only to be told he couldnt as he had asthma, which he denied ever having symptoms of despite his stupidly low lung function readings on testing!! Did feel a bit sorry for him, even though we knew he was lying. Seems i might struggle to write an elective reports on the differences between uk and nz.. the only difference noted is that alcohol gel seems not to exist here, and ...
new plymouth, New Zealand nikkiyates... tramp in NZ!! It will most likely take two days of travel to get up there but then we'll have a 4 day beach vacation. I really don't want to leave since I"m not ready for the real world, especially since I haven't had luck with job searching down here. But I won't think about that right now! Now I'll try to get pictures up, starting with the "235 miles" one. Or not, the computer doesn't like me!! Cheers!
New Plymouth, New Zealand sarahandaaron... his friend Geth still lives and camped on their driveway. Today we're heading up to Mt. Egmont National Park to Dawsons Falls before heading south along the coast finishing off the last end of the surf highway, on our way to Wellington to get the ferry to the South Island. Also we have put some photos in the other entries if you fancy a look. Hope you are all enjoying the snow, thanks for the messages J & H x
Opunake, North Island, New Zealand jonnyw... shared a couple of evenings with them exchanging dinner invites, where we enjoyed some great conversation not to mention some good Kiwi food and wine! The cottage is really well equipped with all mod cons and is in an amazing rural setting. Set high on the banks above a babbling brook the cottage has sheep grazing on one side and on the other free range hens cluck away. Talking of the hens, we have never seen chickens roost up on a tree branch before, but these girls ...

New Plymouth, North Island, New Zealand nztouring... her. Thank God for cell phones! We were able to re-locate each other, ate, and then set off to find some goods... t-shirts and what-not. Unfortunately they were sold out of everything but smalls :( But, I made one T-shirt work and bought that along with a sweet water container that was made in Switzerland. All the while, Jack was playing his sweet sweet melodies. OMG... he is SO good in concert. Not to mention very good-looking and has an awesome, laid-back ...

New Plymouth, New Zealand curtisloweAfter a hearty breakfast from Betty (Arthur had gone to work) we called back to the mini golf to claim Roberts free round, then watched some folk try to get a hole in one on a floating block way out in the lake. I think it's impossible! We headed for New Plymouth via the Forgotten World Highway. We drove up SH 41, after Moerangi is the Waituti Saddle Lookout, I got some really ace pictures of low clouds that were covering the mountains! From Taumarunui there was a sign for the ...
New Plymouth, New Zealand knotty... us to 'the club' if we wanted to meet some locals and he'd sign us in, i politely refused the offer. He was funny and later we found a photo of him on an advertisement for his 'shuttle' in the hostel we were staying at so i got a photo - see photo's and do take care to notice his lovely socks! This place we stayed - Orontanga (made the spelling up as can't remember it). Something happened with a hat here so they have a stone hat in a ...
