Hotels were all 200 euros and up for the dates we wanted but the Blue Tower was just 65. What a deal! It's located in a residential neighbourhood only a 10-15 minute tram ride to Dam Square. We were even able to buy our 3 day transit passes at the front desk.
Our room on the 6th floor was a good size for Amsterdam and even had enough room for 2 armchairs along the side of the room with wall to wall windows. The AC worked well. Two days we were there were close to 30 C (90 F) so this was important. The bathroom was a good size and had a shower rather than a tub. We find this a much better option. No shortage of hot water either.
There is a restaurant in the hotel. We had dinner one night and enjoyed the meal. The front desk staff under manager Wallace were all friendly and helpful. Right next door are 2 large supermarkets and within a block are shops, an Italian cafe and a phone shop.
There was a decent sized safe in the room. There are no in room fridges but the front desk people will label your item and put them in a fridge off the lobby.
We enjoyed our stay and we'll happily stay here again next visit.

... when some
drunk is trying to get into bed with me. I grabbed all my stuff and moved to my "mixed dorm" of five lads from Ireland and me. My locker was filled with an assortment of belongings that weren't mine and all the guys had recently showered and flooding the bathroom with an inch of water. They apologized for the water but with five Irish guys in the room I hadn't planned on going in the bathroom anyway. Eight hours later I left the room and the still-flooded bathroom.
