London to Amsterdam

Got up to start our trip. Everyone had their bags weighed before we could board the bus. We were allowed 20kg max when we started the tour. Everyone knows this, but there was still a few who had to get rid of some weight somehow! I don't know how I did it but my bag was like 15-16 kilos on the way over. I still managed to bring a few things which I didn't even wear. Probably just wore my jeans to deaths and some different shirts mainly. Everyone says pack your bags then half it.. and it's pro...

'European Horizons' Contiki Tour! To Amsterdam!

Today we go on CONTIKI TOUR YAY. We spent most of the night seeing more of London at night, packing, washing and getting every thing organised (more so our biggest issue is damn well fitting it all in!!! LOL), got a couple hours sleep then we woke up a 5.15am in the morning. Felicity not a morning person especially at 5 in the morning and with couple hours sleep (thanks Simon!!!!!!!!!). We rushed out of the hostel picked up simple breakfast from Tesco and signed in for our Europe trip. When w...

29th May - Amsterdam We took a bus to the train station & had Maccas for breakfast before leaving at 8:39. The train ride was one of the longest continuous ones for us: 6.5hrs. We both slept a bit & arrived in Amsterdam at 3:01. We caught a tram, then a 5 min walk to our Hotel. we relaxed for a bit then took our clothes to get washed, we had a load each & it was only 7 euros each for them to wash, dry & fold. We just stayed in for the night - watched tv & updated our blogs...

Amsterdam

Stayed in the Blue Tower Hotel in the slums of Amsterdam, in a nice new hotel. I arrived about 20 minutes before Rachel did on a train from Berlin. Had dinner at the hotel then headed towards the Red Light district. It was deffinately a new experience for us both, I was molested by a big dutch prostitute and got a free nipple gripple.

Amsterdam

Our first day in Amsterdam was just a bit of time to chill after the hectic Contiki tour, and a night in Berlin in between. I had the "Contiki" cold which is basically when 1 person on the bus getssick, everybody does. We also dropped off some much needed laundry. The next day we left the Hotel at 8:45 to go to the Anne Frank Haus. It was really good to see & walk through the actual house where Anne and her family were hiding during the German occupation of The Netherlands. There were lot...

The morning commute

This morning we had our first taste of the real bike life in Amsterdam.  We purchased our used bikes this weekend from a store on the student housing campus (they have two separate "campuses" here: one for students to live on and one for the academic buildings).  Mine is a piece of junk but still cost me 80 euros.  Used bikes here go for 60-125 euros although it is pretty difficult to find any under 90 and if you do the selection is quite limited.  You can of course also venture ...

Ach das goot en nederlande, Ya?

... you can name. There was every cuisine imaginable in the space of a city block, and it went on forever. I began to get cold so I decided to head back. Out of sheer curiousity, I stopped in a coffee shop and yakked it up with an Argentinian guy who called himself Damien, and a man from Surinam named Gus. Yes, it was a marijuana shop and they were happy to relieve me of my ignorance about the drug situation in Amsterdam. Many men, but no ...

... of this BLOG, Mary lost her wallet, and then found it again. She had a mini-meltdown... 1st of the trip. She lasted a little over a week. FUNNY THING OF THE DAY: Mary met this Hispanic fella at a bar and he was talking her ear off to the point of Me and Kasey debating on whether or not we should "save her" when Mary completely blew him off literally saying "I don't want to talk to you anymore." Then he came back and asked if he could buy Mary a drink and of course said ...

Tulips, History and Rain

... restaurant it poured down. It was great place to hang out until the heavy rain passed. We then went to the Tulip Museum which had some great information about the history, cultivation, breeding, storage and sale of tulip bulbs and flowers. It was extremely interesting and there were lots of photos and different movies to illustrate the information. We made our way to Anne Franks house where we were hoping ...

Our first visit to the center of Amsterdam

... they drive carefully around all the bikes. The other thing we saw a lot of was water! Canals are everywhere. In fact, the city center of Amsterdam has many rings of semi-circular canals that surround it (more on these later!). We made it to the main central plaza, made it to the main shopping streets, and finally got some very necessary things for our kitchen and for cooking meals at home. Lucky ...
