Today was the first day that we didn't know where we were going to stay in the evening so we just headed out and kept an eye for anywhere that might take our fancy.

We didn't want to rush ourselves but as we heard the zoo in St Louis was one of the best in the country we headed over there to check it out. It was free and very impressive indeed. The money to keep the zoo running is obviously put together with sponsorship as everything has ...

The GPS is always trying to send us back onto the highway. Some times we come to. An intersection the Route 66 sign points left the GPS says go right, very easy to get lost. No one on the road for miles. The worry is getting turned around and ending up back in Chicago. Heading into Kansas ...

... was 9 miles off route at Foyil. We diverted here to see a totem pole park. We arrived just after it closed at 5pm - but could still walk around and take photos. We ended the day with a final 45min drive through to Tulsa and a stop for the night at a Route 66 roadside motel called Desert Hills Hotel. As a final note we got to sight the first of many Armadillos today. We decided that these animals must be slow moving as unfortunately the road kill count was 15 (luckily not by ...
