And We're Off!
Heading off to the airport, IAH! Next Stop Atlanta, then a straight 15 hrs to Joburg, where we'll catch another plane to Gaborone! We have a room at a casino resort to relax and unwind before we head out to the white hot sands of the Kalahari. Im taking a duffel bag and a backpack, with mostly clean clothes and books. 36 Days will be over in the blink of an eye! ...
Ready to Go! Almost...
... I have a Cannon Powershot something, with a few specialty filters and lens attachments that I've yet to master. Plan on getting some practice before we go. We also have a HD Camcorder and a couple small Sony pocket cameras so we'll always be ready!
Headed to Moody Gardens now to Practice with my new lenses. They have a Beautiful rainforest exhibit full of exotic plants, butterflies and wildlife that will surely test them out!

... takes to drill, how many jobs are involved and the cost. After having lunch at the harbor area we then drove around Galveston looking at some of the old homes that have been restored to there original beauty. A lot of the homes were built in the 1800's. In the evening we went to Kemah and enjoyed their boardwalk along the bay. Jack and I had some ice cream and listen to some music going on in the fountain ...
"Galveston, oh, Galveston"
... yet people are living in them. I know a simple life can be a good life, but this isn't just simple. I could be wrong.
I knew we were about to experience vast extremes in living conditions, and we did. Hitting the Gulf road up to Galveston, it was one big, beautiful beach house after another. Most of the homes appeared to be rentals or vacation homes. They were built atop stilts about 15 or 20 ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Best Western Beachfront Inn Galveston
Pretty decent place to stay.
My wife and I stayed here last week and were very satisfied with our room, the staff, and the accomodations. It is not the Ritz, but your not paying those kind of prices. It is a little shabby around the edges but worked for us. For a motel on the seawall, we thought it was just fine. It was a lot quieter than I expected being so near the highway.
Very Nice Hotel
We recently took a cruise and stayed before leaving at the Best westrn.
This was a great find! We had never stayed at a Best Western before but the price was right so we gave it a try - we were very surprised! The rooms were clean - the pool was heated - they had a good breakfast and best of all, they allowed us to park our car there for 11 days for free while we were on the cruise. Keep up the good work guys! We'll be back.
Smoky smell
We were disappointed in our room as it was to be a non smoking room.
However the smell was offensive. It was like they made it a non smoking room for that night only. Our clothes stank fro days after, and my allergies acted up .It was also to be a room with a view of the ocean, but only if you want to step out of the door and look around the corner. The complimentary breakfast was frozen bagels and no fruit.I will not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Godd value for the price
We stayed for 2 nights nights at the Beachfront Inn prior to our cruise the rate of $45 for Friday night & $55 for Saturday was great. We had a large Claen room with a kingsize bed that was very comfortable. The contential breakfast was disappointing. There were too many people , not enough tables and chairs to sit and they were consatntly running out of juice, milk or coffee. I would have like some fruit on the menu.
Also found no one around after 10 PM, Office closed- to get change to finish my was and the conveient laudry located on the premses.
Thankfully there is a large Groceries store across the road to get change, fruit, softdrinks and pahrmacy items.Good accomodations for the price.
Good stay, horrible management
The first stay was uneventful, except for very dirty windows in breakfast area, and the pool being filthy. Guest were allowed to party buy the pool past closing, and was very loud....They did correct that on a timley manner. Second attempt to stay prior to our cruise, the manager played a shell game on the room prices...It seemed the room rate was acceptable and I contacted all of our parties (4 couples) that the Beachfront was on and to make reservations. Within hours the price had jumped into 3 digits because a cheerleading squad was booking. $60 to $75 is a fair price for this motel No more. Get your conformation faxed or e-mailed or you may be in for aa suprise if something better comes along for them..." 4 couples in Arkansas
I Enjoyed My Stay
I spent two wonderful weeks at Bestwestern and had a wonderful time, I was skeptical at first reading some of the reviews but firsthand experience prove to me that Bestwestern is a wonderful place to stay, the staff was nice, room was tidy ontime and everything prepared, you could rest assure that you have clean stuff and a clean room to go back to after you tour the city. Thanks Bestwestern for your hospitality
Moldy experience
When we checked in at Best Western the room we were given was in unsanitary condition. There were a lot of mold on the walls, carpets, and in the bathroom. The air in the room was so stuffy and damp that you could fall faint or have a heart attack. It took us three hours to get another room, because the staff was initially reluctant to move us in another room. This was unbeliveable given that the hotel was rated as 3 stars.
Wonderful Experience
Our family has just returned from our vacation in Galveston, Texas. We had the most exciting and wonderful time ever. We truly enjoyed the experience and cannot wait to go back again next year. They have such beautiful beaches, the kids really enjoyed themselves there. We stayed at the Best Western Beachfront Motel, best motel ever. Really enjoyed staying there, they really made us feel welcome. The trip to Moody Gardens was the best experience of all. They had so much for the kids to do. That turned out to be an all day experience we will never forget. We enjoyed the IMAX 3-D movie that evening. Just can't wait to get back there again for the next vacation. We enjoyed it so much that we may go off and on for a couple of weekends just to visit there again.Super time, Rev. Miller
Great deal for the money
We read a review on TripAdvisor for this motel, saying it was clean and close to the beach. Turned out to be true! We stayed over spring break for a ridiculously cheap rate. The pool was clean; the bathroom was clean; the sheets were clean; the free breakfast was okay (no fresh fruit and milk was sporadic after 9:00 a.m.); the desk was friendly; the housekeeping was prompt. This motel is on the seawall and there is some covered parking. They offer free parking to cruise ship passengers who spend the night before boarding at the motel. The rooms were remodeled and although they take hard use, we'd recommend this place to everyone as a good deal for the money that is consistent and clean. We'll go back as often as we can for a budget vacation.
