E failed to get any lunch as we discovered that 11:11 is a bank holiday in France and everywhere was closed! So we arrived at the hotel at 5:00 pm and were starving! We checked in and the owner kindly provided us with pate and bread and a glass of red....perfect!

This morning we had free time until 11am so we were up at breakfast by about 8 then went into Macon to look around. It was raining when we set off but it had stopped after about an hour. I found a pair of boots to buy that will keep my feet dry if we have more wet cold weather. We found a lovely patisserie and bought our days cakes. We're back on board the boat just before 11am. The boat left Macon at 11.30 and ...

... off in our finest clothes to Paul Bacouse, the Grand Dad of traditional French Cuisine and Michelin 3 star supremo. On arrival at the famous Auberge restaurant we were introduced to the man himself and had our photo taken at the entrance.

First impressions were like an assault on the cognitive process. The restaurant was traditional, immaculate and refreshingly well illuminated, even my aging ...
