... Church (der Dom) because on the tour we only hung around the outside. I'm glad I did it was absolutely amazing. I really wanted to take some photos but we weren't allowed. I videoed for about a minute before you can hear a whisper in the background of 'that sign says no photos/videos allowed' from my friend and I quickly put it down worried that someone would come over and yell at me in German, but they didn't.
Here are some ...
... it helped that I had already done trigonometry in Australia too). DAD!!! sent me a message during class so my phone went of!!! All of the German boys started laughing at me (as the ratio of girls to boys in Julia's class is about 1:3) and the teacher said something about me in German and I kept apologising. The teacher had a beard and longish wavy hair, he looked like one of those crazy smart Mathematicians. We then went to Bogen for about an hour and a half ...
Bogen, Bavaria, Germany teiganduketisWoke up today as we were approaching Regensburg, a well preserved medieval town. I joined Jack and Suzanne for a walking tour of the town. Our guide was very good and had interesting stories to tell about the town’s history. We saw the oldest stone bridge in Germany which was completed in 1146. It was the only Danube crossing for hundreds of years, and was the starting point for the second and third Crusades. We also saw the Roman Gate to the ...
Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany tucsonjohn... I write things (i.e. spacing letters too far apart, not dotting my eyes, switching from cursive to print, and writing some little letters like the capitalized letters would be written) because our teacher takes points off for that stuff (which sucks!). German 105 (culture) is actually pretty boring, which I knew it would be. But hopefully after we get through all the formal stuff it will get better. But our teacher is great (though very opinionated and doesn't mind to ...
Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany ab10A lot has gone on since my last post and I'm going to go ahead and say I probably won't post every day because there just isn't enough time.
The day after the boat trip to Wahalla we started classes. Well actually just 2 of our 4 classes. For the first 2 weeks we are taking 5 days of German language and 2 of German culture, then the third week we add in our 2 other classes and cut German language ...
... down (a harder walk for me because it was at such an incline and I kept worrying I'd slip) to catch our boat back to Regensburg. The Danau is a very beautiful river, and watching the people boating, swimming, and kayaking in it was very entertaining.
After we returned, a group of us went to get gelato, then headed in separate directions to do our own thing, as most of us were still trying to get settled into our new home. I had a calm, uneventful night.
... guy at the front desk didn't speak much English. We had a problem with him understanding that I wanted to check out today (instead of tomorrow) and that I had already paid. Then he tells me that the bus that goes directly to the airport was no longer running, so I had to take one bus to another stop, then another bus to the airport. The sweet man stood outside with me until the bus came, telling me 5 more minutes, 3 more minutes, 1 more minute. When the ...
Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany ab10... we take note that the next tour for Thurn und Taxis is coming up. This palace dwarfs Buckingham Palace by twice and still holds the noble family today. The residence is a sort of modge podge of styles dating back to the 11th century on up to the 19th century. Originally, the Taxis family founded the postal service in the 15th century and established a very efficient way of delievering mail. It only took 5 days to send a letter by post from Brussels, Belgium to Innsbrook ...
Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany katieandchris... bratwurst sausages, and lots of beer halls. Germans drink a lot of beer; some towns have as many breweries as churches. Old buildings with their own towers, the living area separate to the tower. Depending on how rich you were, was how tall your tower was built. Tonight the entertainment was 4 gorgeous young men who had been members of the St. Peters Dom Choir. Each night after the entertainment we leave the ports and sail onto our next town.
Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany shell51Regensburg, We have been pushing it and can see ourselves arriving in Ostrich (as the German's call it) very soon, Great things about Germany: They have toilet seats. German engineering - everything is smooth and works e.g roads, showers. Refreshments - masters of cakes and beers. By the way, Ulm was the birthplace of Mr A. Einstein, and it also has the tallest church steeple in the world, which we climbed up. 160 metres , 700 steps, phew.
