A good 12 hours sleep for me last night so up early and refreshed. Well kind of, when we puled into this spot there we a number of other vans and it seemed to be in a quiet spot well, we were wrong and didn't really discover this until later on in the night. They were marking the roads, then ever road train in Australia did a drive by some even kind enough to toot their mighty horns at around 2am. thanks guys.
Anyway the bakery is ...
... the door to get out, I was literally bombarded with mozzies, as tho they had been luring us in and waiting impatiently for the moment I'd open the door so they could suck on us. I leapt around uselessly squawking as A patiently suggested I shut the car door!!! We were eaten alive as we frantically searched for the Bushman, wishing we had something stronger, tho Agent Orange is what these blood suckers choose for brekkie.
Undeterred, we set up camp ...
Not much today to report - drove through some beautiful green, hilly and meanering rivers full of water farming country and Denzel informed us everytime we passed the cows and sheep and trucks and horses and anything we passed with a high pitched "OOOOOOK" the most notible being the Snowy River. We we're planning to cross the Victoria border and stay at Lake ...
Stratford, Victoria, Australia drownsroundaus... night in Sale. Approximately 150 kilometres from Melbourne in a resting area with really dodgy toilets. We're used to them by now though. That evening we had pasta with tuna thanks to Jan once again and had an absolutely hilarious conversation about how different languages describe animal noises. In Czech a pig goes "hrohr hrohr" instead of "oink oink" and a frog says "quack quack". You had to be there really. We have nicknamed Ila 'Koala', all she does is eat and sleep. Cute.
Sale, Victoria, Australia katieandphill... pressies Pete and I caught the train out to his Grandma's place for Christmas Eve Hungarian style with the rest of his family. Christmas Day was a healthy 28C and gorgeous blue skies. This year I'd agreed that I would show the Reisigner family a 'Pommie' christmas complete with a full english christmas dinner. After a few gin and tonics and plenty of stressing, Pete and I finally managed to negotiate his mum's oven and serve up a full Pommie christmas dinner. Between ...
Toongabbie, Australia annakins64... the park headquarters and large camp ground are located. Saw my first live Wombat shuffling along beside the road in a comical fashion, funny looking creatures. The only wombats I've seen previously were roadkill. Parked the car and walked to the summit of Mount Oberon at 558 metres, which overlooks the pretty Oberon bay. I'm now standing on the most southerly tip of the Australian mainland. A stiff sea breeze made it ...
Seaspray, Victoria, Australia christosp... for 10 years so they have a lot of experience. I stayed in the bungalow a few metres from the house. Work was feeding the lamb, Charlotte, the chucks, the Cow - Princess, the dog- Mindy. Digging, pruning, planting - I planted apple trees, fig trees, raspberries, strawberries, rhubarb, pear trees, snow peas, onions. I drove the tractor- my favourite job and a few times we went to the farmers markets at the weekend. It got a bit lonely at times as the couple are ...
Sale, Australia lorraine11... and viewing and endless succession of campsites, all of which are obvious, nearly identical, and have pretty much the same directions: Don't camp under the big dead trees/tree limbs. Radio communications are better if you walk up the hill. For some reason they beleive here that if the instructors haven't previously viewed the patch of dirt on which they will be staying, the won't be able to successfully/safely camp there. My first course in ...
Buchan, Australia aeschwar... place called Gipsy Point, a remote and very quiet fishing village that was comprised of no more than a lake, a boat ramp and a few exclusive apartments overlooking said lake and boat ramp. There was a tiny little jetty from which a boat cruise when three times a week, the next trip being tomorrow. We stopped for a short while to sit in the sun and soak up the tranquillity of our surroundings. It was so quiet, there was no one else around at all. We didn't ...
Mallacoota, Australia lisartw... won the day with a large curvy ochre number the winner. The views around the Yarra Valley must be some of the best in the country and the outlook from their restaurant must be up there with the best, the wine-making weather of brilliant sunshine with a good dousing of rain every now and again kept the area's lush rolling fields a deep green. Further along the road was the town of Yarra Glen with Yering Station Vineyard a few miles further along the Melba Highway. This place ...
