Gabby Garmin At Work

Couldn't sleep so off we went at 3:45AM- heading South. Set our New talking Garmin GPS system for Taylorsville State Park near Taylorsville, KY. The GPS chatters away telling you how far, where to turn and if you make a mistake her favorite word is "recalculating". I say 'she' because the Garmin uses a soothing female voice. I suppose Garmin does that so when their information is incorrect it helps keep one calm.

We nicknamed the GPS ...

Monday - day trip to Sintra

Tuesday - roam around the city some more then fly to Terceira, Azores (4 hours ahead of Louisville time).

I'll be in the Azores from 9/8 through 9/17 for work. Only thing on the agenda (other than my pesky job) for right now is a half day whale watching tour on ...

River City Mocha

A short walk from the hotel lead us to the Louisville Convention Center and my first Kentucky Starbucks. I made it a mocha since it doubled as my breakfast. I asked the barista if they carried city mugs and he replied with a slight southern tang, "Nope. Small market."

Right.

Surprise in the River City

... built the hotel that stands today in 1972 and named it after Dr. Galt.

After a quick coffee stop this morning, we walked around the downtown and happened upon the Art Car Weekend, an awesome display of crazy painted cars with things glued on them that lasted a good four blocks. Among my personal favorites were the dental car, the Wizard of Oz car, and the penny ...

Preparing for the Trip

... as that's all i plan on taking aside from my laptop/electronic backpack...Chad in general is anxious and nervous...kind of endearing...he's never been out of the country (not even Mexico and Canada, which in my book don't count anyway)...watching his eyes open to the world...the varying languages, cultures, real European food and the history or art is what I think will be most entertaining this time around....though ...

Thunder Over Louisville 2009

... of the event.

The one thing that people really love and is absolutely free is the air show! We have pilots come in with all kinds of planes ranging from old WWII fighter jets to the top of the technological line Harrier Jets. The planes also put on their own fireworks show by having trails of fireworks shooting off of the back of them as they spin and soar through the evening skies. The air show goes on all day and rumbles the whole river city area. Who knows? The year you go ...

The vacation continues on the drive home

... what these may lack in height, the make up for in depth. The valleys and gorges that lie in between the mountains are deep, providing a magnificent contrast in colors and textures. Trees cover the sides of the mountains in a patchwork quilt of greens. Then, in the valleys between, there are rivers or small farms or just another layout of greens. Every time we curved around a mountain we were treated to another postcard view of beauty.

L-ville Nights

Louisville is best done at night. Our night life is no Vegas. But it is pretty good.

The places featured in the album:

4th Street Live: A clubbing hot spot. But only if you're 21+. Still pretty fun with all of the restaurants and shopping.

Cafe 360: The local hookah bar. It has a wide variety of food on its menu. It's open 24 hours, 7 ...

Ain't No Haint

So I lived close to nowhere. My grandparents on my father's side lived far from everywhere. At the very least, I had friends and neighbors, or perhaps more appropriately, partners in crime, and they were all an easy bike ride away. My grandparents had a horse and tobacco farm that sat smack dab in the middle of a hundred acres of what could be more or less construed as wilderness that, in its early days, bore no marks of human habitation beyond the farm other than a few criss-crossed ...

In Search of Bigfoot

... houses, no one else lived on Meadowlark, and everything else was just a big, rolling field of tall brown grass, brambles, and sweet smelling honeysuckle that lead back to the medium woods. These were considerably larger and less charted than the woods immediately next to our house. Meadowlark Lane itself crawled up a steep hill, which made learning to ride a bike something of an adventure. It was easy to get going, not as easy to figure out how to stop, especially when you're ...
