Coming from the cabin, we stoped here for a while to try some local specialities and take the train to come back to Miroslav house in Zichovec. Amazingly, there were several chickens and cocks looking for food in the railways. And even more amazingly, they seemed to know the train schedule, because five minutes before it came, they started to get out of the way!!!

Finally, the cabin!

... and even from the military area in front of the cabin. We even visited a quarry, our obliged stop being three geologists alone in the forests (this is what we usually do to have fun). We ate something, wash the dishes, cut some wood, packed, and sadly left the cabin to come back. Only later (in Vienna) we would discover that two ticks had biten us, and were actually with us for the next week (it was like a very cheap Interrail for them)...

Zichovec

The hometown of Miroslav. We were given the warmest of welcomes in his house, and his family was extremely nice to us. We slept two nights there, one before and one after our stay in the cabin; and we enjoyed the company of Mira's mother, father and niece (who by the way, plays the accordion virtuously).

Písek and the sand...

Písek, city of the sand...we found it in our way to Mira's place, and we took the two pics you can see from the oldest Czech Bridge, which was almost completely covered by the floodings in 2002. It is really beautiful, and it is one of our best pictures (Bea took it) to date, what in the other hand it's not so difficult...

... I haven't used one in over four months), and our view was of the castle tower. Although the bathroom still flooded when we showered, it was a comfortable and clean room that didn't require a sleep sac! We headed to a recommended local restaurant for some traditional Czech food, although, the place ended up to be sort of a mixed bag of people. We sat on benches with locals, behind us were picture-happy Asian tourists, next to them were loud talking Americans from Georgia (we ...

In search of bears

From Prague we caught the train down to Cesky Krumlov, a place we'd heard so many great things about. It's a small wonderfully preserved mediaeval town. It took us a bit of work finding our hostel, but when we got there we were really happy. For only 15 dollars each we had a private room in a hostel about 15m from the town square. That night we went exploring the cobbled streets and visited the town's greatest attraction, Cesky Krumlov castle. As you can see from ...

... and demerits of urban living came up while we were in Cesky Krumlov because based on our schedule, this was the place we decided to take some time to find ourselves a place to live in Denver. With a few hours of internet research and a handful of emails directed to potential landlords and building managers, our return to the life in a big (ish) city seemed inevitable. With that thought we decided to unplug for the rest of the day and soak up a few more hours of the good life in a small town.

... ran down the mountain! My experience in the High Tatras has obviously given me a different perspective on mountain safety when a proper path actually exists. The only time I felt was wasted was visiting the Egon Schiele art centre. After enjoying some of Schiele's work the Leopolds gallery in Vienna, and learning that he had spent some time living and working in Cesky Krumlov, and that many of his paintings were inspired by the town, I was quite expecting ...
