Front desk not present, had to call for service. Hotel is not very old, still in good clean condition. It's out of the way and occupancy was low.

... there. More great catching up! On Labour Day we headed for the border on the start of our return trip. Made it just past Bemidji to Walker, Minnesota, on Tuesday we made it as far as Winona, Minn., and then last night we arrived in Geneseo, Illinois. We have been following the Mississippi south and it has been a gorgeous drive. Amazing bluffs along the river and little towns tucked into narrow river ...

In the afternoon, as the sky was getting darker, we hit the ...

Crossing the Ohio River brought us to the southern tip of Illinois. Within the first two hours of roaming the forested regions of our own state we encountered seven cars along the side of the interstate held temporary hostage by flashing red and blue lights. Most of the situations occurred with undercover police cars, one resembling Lorraine. After two weeks on the road we barely witnessed any traffic stops except for a few accidents during ...

... Bread. It keeps the kids happy. Then finally made it to our first campsite at Lake Anita Campground. Very picturesque. We took a nice long bike ride around the lake. Glad to have a little real relax time.

Made a nice BBQ dinner and sat by the campfire. Tomorrow is another long day of driving but we are headed to South Dakota to visit Mt Rushmore so we are all ...

... Finally after searching the entire great kingdom for a gas station we crept by a tiny store with tanks out front. The store was run down and looked closed except for a stout sweaty farmer in denim bibs in front of one of the tanks filling up his tractor. I pulled through to make sure the public was invited to use this gas station. The eeriness of the environment gave me the heebie jeebies, nonetheless it appeared to be our last option. Luckily the tanks accepted my debit card ...
