Arrived too late yesterday to visit Elvis' childhood home, but really we weren't too interested as it looks like a lot of fuss about nothing much. Leaving Tupelo, we decided to take the truly Scenic Route to Nashville. From Natchez in the south of the State of Mississippi (see the 3rd June) to Nashville over a distance of 444 miles, there is an ancient "Trace" or path whose origins goes back thousands of years, largely created ...

    The smallest Civil War battlefield

A travel blog entry by sethfield on May 15, 2015

I arrived in Tupelo the night of May 15th and stayed overnight, making my way into town the next morning to see the smallest preserved battlefield of the Civil War: less than an acre in the middle of the town with a couple of graves, a couple of informational placards, a monument, and a couple of cannons. With the holiday weekend coming there was no way to get a part right away but said we did not have to haul the boat and replace the shaft. He is going to use a hand grinder and cut a new Keyslot on the other side ...

Insofar as bike touring goes, we left extremely late today because we debated for so long about whether or not to ride because of the strong winds out of the south plus it's suppose to rain on Monday morning so we could have a short ride on Monday afternoon. As we said yesterday, this is a fabulous hotel, and sure wouldn't mind to be stuck here if we had to weather a storm. This would be an especially good place to try to get caught up on our travel ...
