Newport, Oregon, United States reneev7Every spring our Grandma Ellie would take my cousin Lacey and I down to the Oregon Coast to stay with out Great Aunt Laura for 4 or 5 days. The weather was usually cloudy, foggy, and drizzly, but we spent every waking moment on the beach in Newport, OR (except when we would go to the aquarium to see the whale from Free Willy). One trip we went down it was known as the 'Season ...

The other mammals we spotted were surfers taking advantage of the waves!

Part of our enjoyment of our coastal trip was traveling over wonderful concrete (and sometimes with steel) bridges erected in the 1930s and designed by Conde B. South Beach, Oregon, United States pmf1153... the car around, and as we pulled into another street we noticed a home that had a castle like appearance. True to our adventurous natures, we detoured to check this out and ended up in an area of opulent homes perched on a hillside overlooking yet another spectacular view. At the end of this road was a pull off spot, so we stopped to look at the ocean below where seals and birds were sunning themselves on a small island. Also here was another car full of ...

Newport, Oregon, United States baphometdemonAfter a leisure morning at the lake house, we were just preparing to head out when Mr. Charnholm showed up and told us we could stay until Sunday if we desired. So, we took him up on his offer and decided to hang out for another day. This gave us a chance to spend some time seeing some of the Oregon coast north of us. We drove ...
Lincoln City, Oregon, United States snlmalaypen... the ice rain. Gloria had a hard time even getting out of the 6" deep ruts left by the other vehicles, which all had chains. So, we decided to let the GPS select us another route and when we were about 2 hours into it we had to stop for gas. Unfortunately we were then informed by the gas attendant that the route we had chosen was closed. Man backtracking is awesome! One ...
Newport, Oregon, United States canook... up and a lovely pie and Guiness in an Irish bar! The next day we headed south to Cape Perpetua to see the stunning Devil's Churn after a morning walk on Nye Beach in Newport. As we headed further south we stopped to have a great walk through the huge sand dunes. The Oregon coast is stunning, thanks to careful preservation by the state.
Newport, Oregon, United States dymphna9817... in order to orgnize a group of up to 50 people on the boat, we were divided into groups, each of which would be in different areas of the boat at varying times, doing various activities. Being the "ORCA" group meant that we were at the top of the food chain (i.e., adults who were capable of taking care of ourselves), and could go anywhere on the boat, and take part in organized activities, if we wished, or not.
