We saw the statue of Robert Burns and lots of beautiful churches. We ate roasted pumpkin soup for lunch, with cheese rolls (rolled up bread slices around melted cheese), a flat white and a long black, and it was great. Then we walked to the Otago Museum ...
Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand coloexplorers... circumstances where this would come up.

Our next stop was Dunedin; a city built as an exact replica of Edinburgh. The mistake they made was designing the town in England before they set off. When they arrived, all pleased at their idea of copying another city, they realised the patch of land they'd set aside was full of huge hills – including the steepest hill in the world – but they went ahead and built it anyway. Good for them. The weekend we ...

Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand iquaff... lunch at the YHA before getting on the next bus to Christchurch, one of the hostel staff comes up to us with a serious face, "I am the bearer of bad bews". Joel's mind immediately jumps to the backpacks which we left in reception while out for the morning, "the backpacks have been nicked'. 'No, but when I was in your room after you checked out I found bedbugs". I had actually been itching around the ankles but had ignored it as so far we have ...
Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand joelrose... 20 people was using the same area as an overnight stop but none of the competitors arrived until about 1am from their all day cycle and then departed again at dawn for a 15km swim down the river which was full of grade 2 rapids. Yesterday we went kayaking in Doubtful Sound rather than join the 3-6000 tourists that go to Milford Sound every day and swapped the 5hr drive for a one hour boat ride across Lake Manapouri. After the boat ride we had a short bus ...

Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand euniceandbyoung... If you stay in the Lodge you have fantastic views over the inlet to Dunedin and can eat in the Castle, which we did. It's set up in the dining room as if it were a dinner party which all the guests around one table, lit by candlelight and with a log fire. Between courses we were entertained by someone telling the facts and myths of the castle and it's history. We ate with a retired couple from Melbourne and a honeymoon ...
Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand andrea_nz... s chocolate factory where we took a tour around the production facilities and collected our free samples on the way around. The highlight was when we were taken into a big purple silo and watched a ton of chocolate pour out of bucket infront of our eyes! Then we checked into a hotel where we got an upgrade and a free bottle of wine with our half price dinner - not bad. Next morning we were up and off early (well, 10am) and drove out along ...
