Pacific Coast

It is late Sunday night ( 1:30 Tn. time) and I am trying to catch this blog up. We drove down the coast from Lacy Washington to Lincoln Oregon today. The scenery changes with every mile we go. I saw the Pacific ocean for the first time today it is beautiful and cold . The beaches here are also different from what I am use to but they are still beautiful maybe even more so than Florida beaches. I guess it is having the Mountain ranges and the ocean all together makes it really spectacular. We ...

Whale and Seal watching on the Oregon Coast

Monday Labor day and we took the day off from traveling and stayed a couple of days in Lincoln Oregon. This morning we went over to the ocean and the very first thing we see are seals basking in the sun. This was very exciting . The little black dots you see in the water are the seals swimming around hunting there breakfast. The beaches here are very different from Florida beaches. First dogs are allowed to roam freely and enjoy the beach as much as the people which was OK with me. You are al...

The Jellyfish Whispers

... So everytime we made a trip back to the house we would carry 2 or 3 in the palms of our hands and walk them up to the bucket we made as their home. Our skin made contact with each and every jellyfish that we carried and they were all still alive. But for some reason, we never once got stung by them. At the end of the week we showed Grandma and Laura and they couldnt ...

Soon, we were able to identify his bridges by the deco obelisks that flanked the entrances and the wonderful arches that were his signature.

We would have been content to stay longer at the coast, but we are behind in our itinerary and need to head off to our next destination, Crater Lake, before snow moves in. We’ll be heading back to the coast after that, but this time in Northern California.

Let's see some coast

OK, the 101 coastal highway is a misnomer in the northwest. You are teased with some vistas but not for long at all. But finally breaking out of the lumber backcountry with all the mixed growth, clearcuts and plantings to be harvested in 2045. The bridge to Astoria area brought me into Oregon and the coastal highway doesn't ...

... saw the new Chinook Winds Casino on the ocean. The sun was just setting but it wasn’t overly spectacular at this point. We didn’t really find a good spot to park, but when we stopped behind the Casino, Dawn hopped out to take a picture. She headed into an unauthorized area and since the casino staff were watching her and about to apprehend her we called her back and moved along. Pretty sure she got a picture first though.

This time we ...

Race ya!

... ourselves, this time taking things slow and steady, moving uphill inch by inch it seemed. Dawn was well ahead, those longer legs worked for her and she soon disappeared from sight over the rise. Margaret and I, not seeing any point to hurrying now, sat down for a bit and drank in the incredible vista in front of us. The ocean stretched out forever it seemed and we could see beaches and coves and rock formations, even small towns for miles. Surfers below looked liked shiny black ...
