Historical Traveler Reviews of Best Value Mariposa Lodge

A nice clean inn in a charming town.

from dustydog
The town is refreshing un-touristy, but with plenty of good restaurants, shops, and an authentic western feel. It was a good place to recharge and rest. The Mariposa Lodge was immaculate, large rooms, and we could walk to most anything in town. It is a great place for a getaway, or as a base of operations for an affordable Yosemite trip.

Little gem

from johnt3773
Lovely hotel, totally in keeping with the town. Room was a good size and had everything you'd need in it, plus the bonus of a swimming pool.

They make a lot of the beautiful gardens on the hotel's website - they do have some pretty flowers growing but be careful you don't drive over them on the way in. Yosemite NP is a bit more spectacular and this hotel's in a great location for visiting the park.

You'll have to dine out if you stay here but we found loads of great food within walking distance.

Great value hotel

from DowningUk
Stayed in this hotel the 14th and 15th April 2004 after using trip advisor. Great hotel set in beautifully kept gardens and nice setting. Larger than average room which was extremely clean with nice decor. Found the lady on reception very pleasant and helpful. The pool was a little cold for our children.

Be warned do not go to the Charles Street Dinner House down the street. This is our sixth trip to the USA and we have visited extensively covering eight states, and this was by far the worse service we have ever received! The lady was rushing us, rude and sarcastic. The bill was very expensive for an average meal. The following night we went to the Happy Burger just down the street where the meal and service was so much better for considerably less money.

Great place to stay

My husband and I stayed at the Mariposa Lodge for 2 nights (April 17-18, 2004) based on reviews we read on this site. We stayed in room #145, which was an end unit upstairs, in the interior on the complex (off the street). We had a large room with a comfortable king bed. Also included TV with HBO, small refrigerator, and a small table and 2 chairs, balcony. Bathroom was large (lots of counter space) and tiled floors.

Staff was friendly and there were menus from local restaurants in the office. The complex is well kept. Lots of Spring flowers were blooming.

We tried the Pizza Factory the first night. Great pizza! Breakfast at the Red Fox was good and reasonably priced. We also had dinner there that evening and the food was good. Also had lunch one day at the Happy Burger. Huge menu and good burgers. We had fun looking at all the record album covers that are on the ceiling and walls.

I would reccomend the Mariposa Lodge to friends.

This is the place I send my family to when they visit from out of town.

It is clean, comfortable, friendly and very well taken care of. The staff is awesome!! They always go the extra mile for me. The rooms are always in great shape and super clean. My grandkids love the hot tub and pool, I enjoy the gardens. You will not do better in mariposa. I have used other motels in town but this is always my first choice.

Friendly, Nice & Quiet

We stayed one night (10/11/03) at the Mariposa Lodge. Our family of five with an Italian Greyhound in tow found the accommodations to be just fine. Its a nice place to stay while visiting Yosemite. Based on reviews we gave the Red Fox a try for dinner. Unfortunately we got there after a busload of seniors. We had to wait about 45 minutes for a table and then we all squeezed into a smaller table. I'll just say the staff must have been wiped-out after the bus crowd left. Service was off, the food was offthe place has potential, just wasnt there the night we went. The next a.m. we hit the BK down the street just to get a quick meal and jet. I would stay at the Mariposa Lodge again and I would give the Red Fox another go.

What a room!

The room is really big!! Excellent. The staff was very nice and gentle. Mariposa reminded me of a little town from a Western movie. But it is in California and it rained at my staying.

Cute town, great stopover for Yosemite

from mpierce06
After a full day visiting Yosemite, this was a perfect place to soak in the spa, relax at the pool, then enjoy great Mexican food within walking distance at Castillo's. Also bought native American jewelry at a local shop in the early evening. Hotel was very clean, spacious, nicely furnished, and quiet. Would take this town over Oakhurst any day!

Small town.

You should be hesitant concerning area and hotel chain. Fortunately, it's still CA otherwise I would have expected to hear distant duelling banjos. Surprisingly, this is the most decent accomodation(clean, comfortable, and economical) I've experienced yet to sport the BV name. They really have to work on their nationwide QC. Unless you like small towns like John Cougar Mellencamp, you'll find more variety in Oakhurst. Would recommend to a family familiar or interested in Kermitville.

Mariposa -- Surpisingly Good!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I hesitantly made reservations at the Mariposa Lodge, knowing little about the area or the hotel chain. I went by the good reviews I had read about it on travel sites. The little town was very cute and for the price, the hotel was much more than I expected. The rooms were very large and clean and the grounds were beautifully landscaped. Our room was recently renovated and furnished with mission style furniture. We were very happy with our accomodations. For dinner, we ate at the White House Restaurant. Our meal was quite decent and we loved the clam chowder. The prime rib was good as well. In the morning we had breakfast at (don't laugh) Happy Burger. This place was a real find as well. It's on the cheezy kitschy side...and the service can be rather slow, but the food was quite good. They have an enormous diner like menu. You must try the hashbrowns. The best I've had.
