        Day 8: Columbia River Gorge

        ... for lunch. Park overlooked the river & had lovely rose garden.

        Took Route 30 out of The Dalles to the Rowena Overlook which has gorgeous views of the gorge & river. Short trail there also.

        Shortly after leaving here, as we headed to the waterfalls area in western part of the gorge, suddenly everything is covered with pines. Amazing change! Stopped and saw five beautiful waterfalls, all right off old Route 30, ...

        ... city, big marina there. Nice downtown park with free parking/ free park.

        Back on the road, the gasbuddy app tells us that gas is much cheaper in Idaho than in Washington so we stopped for gas before entering next state.

        3:30 pm - Back on 90 W & entered Washington just after 3:30. An actual state sign here!
        Bit of traffic as we passed through Spokane area.

        ... town and was outside photographing the school when a staff member spoke to me and invited me in. Had a tour of 4th grade, special ed and preschool.
        Dinner was a no frills hamburger, meat, cheese and onion but the night was something special. I thought fire and brimstone would descend upon us. Picture this: Chris sitting down to eat and the entertainment was gospel singing. Yes I know you're smiling too.

        ... on the other side and plenty of snow all over, very, very scary white knuckle drive. Glad Rich was driving as I was hanging on to my door for dear life. The rest of the day driving through the rest of Montana, Idaho, and into Washington was very beautiful. Stopped late afternoon. In Ritzville, WA.
