Metz!

This is an incredible place...but I don't have any pictures... when I got there my camera stopped working :( But I really think it was a blessing because I just saw everything and didn't worry about getting pictures of everything for later, I just saw and took it all in. It was a much needed get-away and it really blew me away, especially the Cathedral! Mass there was unbelievable...and I have a new-found love of French...and their pastries :)

Last Leg

We left Germany this morning with fuzzy heads after 4 pints of strong German Lager the evening before. We let Pete and Tim know our proposed route and set off in search of some sun!

It was not long before we heard from the lads who said they were still in the mountains probably having fun so we plodded along the motorway heading towards Metz.

Nothing much to report apart from the consumption of BK number two, two in two days. No we are not doing a ...

Day 6

... nice to see him and his family again. Fantastic lunch and same goes for the company. As all good things have to end we parted around 4 pm to go back to my brother's place for ... you guessed it another reunion with a childhood friend, Agnes what can I say... she will never change. Love her to bits even though she is a little mad (in a nice way)

Day 4

Got up this morning and after our ablutions we took the road for "Domremy-la-pucelle" birth place of Johann of arc. Great trip and pics taken. We then decided to go to the local cathedral to check it out ... this is when we saw he sign for: " ruine gallo-romaines de Grand". Of we pop following ...

... stop was Madam Tussads. This was lots of fun because you could get pictures with Barack Obama, the pope, JFK, and Mahumed Ali just to name a few. You could get your hand plastered in wax and as my Brother was doing this he dropped his hat in the wax. The next stop was the massive old Church in the shopping district of Berlin This was really boring for me and I just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. My Dad was really interested by the Church which ...

Day 3

Got up around 7 am and got to the restaurant for breakfast. Typical French fare with "croissants plain and chocolate, bread, butter and jam" and the great taste of coffee with the addition of chicory to take off the bitterness. After "mon petit dejeuner" I took some goodies (unfortunately I will have to repeat this over the next few days) to Margaret and the kids so we could all a bite to eat together. After about an hour we decided on the program of the day and were going ...

... takes us only about 5 minutes. Bettembourg is surrounded by rolling countryside and farmland and is, in my opinion, very beautiful. It takes about 28 minutes to get to Differdange by train, and 10 minutes in the opposite direction to get to Luxembourg City. My host mom, Maga, is amazing! She is so wonderful to my roommates and I. The only things required of the host family are to provide a furnished room, daily shower, and continental breakfast. Maga ...

Nancy, France

Thursday, January 15 After classes, we piled into buses for mandatory tours. Some groups went to Metz or to Treir, but my group went to Nancy, France. This city was so great!! It's really broken up into two cities, the old and the new, and it used to be two cities. Both are now connected into one city by an extravagant plaza! The plaza is huge, and is flanked by ornate old buildings, including such places as a hotel where Marie ...

Metz

Woke up this morning, ate my breakfast, and headed off to the train station in the drizzle. I got the train station to go to Metz. Metz is a small town in France only a short train ride from Luxembourg. When I arrived, I saw that a train was leaving for Metz in less than 10 minutes. I wasn't sure if I could use my ticket for this train because I was told when I was given my ticket that I couldn't take certain trains (the better and faster trains ...

Last bit of France - Verdun and Metz

... is being rebuild, not in a good way. After that I reached the citadelle but decided to give up to visit it. I stopped by the supermarket to get some food and took the way to Metz by HH. I met a belgian that was also hitch-hiking and was having a lunch. He gave me a belgian calling card and after the lunch I left on my side stopping by a military cimetery. I started HH and ...
