... the bodies. We climbed on our bikes and rode 10km up the beach and found a big ship that was now earth bound and zebra's and elephants and white horses. I kid you not. Check out my photos!!!! Now I think the whole of France is at the beach and half of Spain. Its all so different to what we are used to but thats why we are here! Tomorrow we shall go to Carcassonne or maybe the next day. We shall see how hot it ...

Day 11

This was our last day of serious climbing and we have now dipped wheels and deposited Atlantic stones in the Meditarranean. It was a gorgeous day, and we set off as a group of five, Peter, who is feeling much better, Lori, Steve, Gilles and I. The major climb took us to the Col de Palomere at 1036 m. Well this day was truly a slice. I left the hotel with Peter, Steve and Gilles at 8:30, and arrived at the hotel in Prades at 7 pm. The nominal route was 115 Kms with 6 climbs.

Our little group cut off the first two climbs thus reducing the length by about 12 Kms. We then started our climb of the Col de Pailheres which took us to 2001 metres, with the last 450 metres of altitude being done ...

... as quickly found the bike route on a service road alongside D618 to D61.

We followed this country road through very Spanish-looking little towns all the way to Argeles-sur-Mer. At Sorede, however, we started getting word that Mesfin was lost. Not good.

The gang was hanging out at one of the MANY bars and cafes in this beach town, right at the traffic circle next to the hotel, and welcomed us as we arrived. ...

DAY 10/June 23: The queen stage

Today was always going to be a challenging day and that's what we got.

Shoving off after breakfast with Dave & Linda, the climbing started right away as right on the edge of town as we started up a very pretty corniche road to Col de Marmare and Col de Chioula. Like many climbs we've encountered this trip it was relatively long but with a very manageable grade--so manageable that I did it all in my middle ring.

Lori, Wayne ...
