Day 7 - Chernobyl Tour

A travel blog entry by costin

We awake early and with a bit of a hangover, but we are visiting the site of the Chernobyl disaster today, so we plough on. Today promises to be an interesting, if somber experience. We meet our tour group by independence square and take the two hour coach ride to the exclusion zone around Chernobyl. There is an interesting documentary about the aftermath of the disaster being shown, but my hangover gets the better of me and I only last about 15 ...

Chernobyl, Ukraine: Nuclear Fallout

A travel blog entry by samber

This is a top pick!

I admit US$160 for a day trip to go stand in a radioactive ghost town sounds a lot but it was definitely worth it. We caught a bus from Kiev centre at 9am with a bunch load of other people - probably about 20 in total. A travel blog entry by shaunandkaren

This is a story of a small city. A city once bustling with young families. A city now home to a lone crow. This is a story about two adventure travellers who went off to explore an abandoned city due to the world's largest nuclear disaster. This is a story of the evacuation of 90 villages, and the dramatic city left over after the disaster. This is the story of the eerie silence of Chernobyl.

Once upon a time, it was the year 1970 in the thriving years of the USSR, and the city ...

Our Journey to Chernobyl

A travel blog entry by adamandlara55

Arrived at the train station half an hour early as we were still chasing euros for the tour. Apparently we can only exchange our money from Hyrvnas to Euros if we have some stupid certificate! We aren't usually rude people but as we walked away I think there was a small 'what the **** is the point of a currency exchange if you can't exchange your friggen currency'? Or some such thing. My defence is that they couldn't understand what I was saying anyway and also ...
