Last night we cruised to Yaroslavl arriving early this morning. This city was founded in the 11th century. We visited the church of Elijah the Prophet,  a church that has just been rebuilt after it was destroyed during the revolution in 1937. Many churches, not all,  were destroyed ...

... came with the last section about the new ocean cruises.

This was definitely a hmm...hah... moment.

By this time, and after a nice lunch, we were ready to take on Russia again as we docked in Yaroslavl. Yaroslavl is at the confluence of two rivers and is a 'Golden Ring' city i.e. VERY picturesque.

It was our first provincial town.

After the city experience of St Petersburg, and the villages of Mandrogy and Kizhi, it was a ...

Friday 29 May We are heading to Yaroslavl, down a tributary and then will come back up to head to Uglich and on to Moscow. Yaroslavl is 260 ks from Moscow with 640,000 inhabitants and is onr of the oldest cities in Russia founded in 1010 by Prince...Yaroslavl, the Wise. They are all Wise or Great or Terrible these rulers but it seems to us as we learn more that the best construction in Russia - at least the most beautiful was all done in the 17 and 18th centuries with many ...

Good evening from Uglich!! Today around noon we arrived in Uglich, one of Russia's Golden Ring cities. As I mentioned yesterday, we are not able to sail to Yaroslavl so the cruise company arranged for us to be bussed there today. We boarded the busses around 2:00 for the 1-1/2 hour bus ride to the city of Yaroslavl. Yaroslavl is a city of about 600,000 people on the Volga River. Once in the city, we visited the Church of Elijah the ...

I have arrived in the town of Yaroslavl, the second of two new places I have been. Yesterday we sailed from Moscow over night and didn't get to Uglich until late because of the fog. That worked out just fine for me as I nursed my hangover from drinking shots of vodka with the local staff on the boat! This morning we have docked ...
