22 Sadama Haapsalu, Estonia, 90507, 47-37250
... Estonia is much more old-world. For instance, the 100-kilometer bus ride to Haapsalu took about two hours, and the last 20 km were on unpaved roads. The only thing I knew about the town is that it's famous for the Ghost of the White Lady. Back in the day, while they were building the round towers on the cathedral, there were monks studying in the dark depths of the castle. Though women were similarly studying, they were banned from the men-only monastery on ...
Haapsalu, Estonia traveese... I had to think of it until the end of our trip). It was 3cm long, big and shining black. First I thought it was two bugs - one eating the other, but no - it was all one body. We saw our second Vormsi sunset on one of islands capes, where you could get through a road where there was grass higher than humans, there used to be a path and it was possible to do with bikes, but I wouldn't dare doing it without Tom. He was breaking the way for me :) greetings, Mara and Tom
Diby, Estonia tommmartens... forgot about making it to the lake some 20 kilometers further and found some friendly people who offered us some of their land to pitch our tent. We dressed up in our finest clothes and went to see and hear Koit Toome, a good singer who once represented Estonia at the Eurovision-songfestival. For us it was allready more then enough to have an enjoyable concert in that beautiful ...
Padise, Estonia tommmartens... which were scattered about the site - fine we thought, won't be that bad, after all we're still young right??!!OH MY GOD - ALL BLOODY NIGHT - with the bass nearly knocking our Winnie over!!!And even a kiddies sing along, blaring from the speakers in the morning at 9 o'clock just after the other music had gone quiet - GREAT! After all that, we did have a good day by the beach, watching a few of ...
Tuksi, Estonia no1pablo... back roads are pretty ****** really. If you are not on a main motor way (well even then) there are pot holes, or just dirt roads with huge bumps everywhere. So it is pretty slow going unless you take the major way. The sat nav doesn't really work that well out here either, it has the major roads and the capital in it, but other then that it shows you on a blank screen. We have had to invest in some maps, and this also means that I have a job to ...
Haapsalu, Estonia laine... excellent camping lunch at 5pm at a bus stop in Nõva -- black bread, sausage, yummy tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese (thanks to Bethany for superuseful Swiss army knife, circa 1990, still sharp) - probably some church, can't really remember much else, it was a long day - finally getting to Haapsalu after many many hours of hard biking ...
Haapsalu, Estonia mklots... Geröll überschüttet, die Deppen. XXXXX The special daytrip was reduced to only to the island Saaremaa as the ferry to Hiiumaa drove 4 times only per day. Therefor continue to ensure that I can see the footballgame from the worldcup 2006 Switzerland vs. France in Tallinn. I almost falled while I passed a roadwork because they used fist-sized stones for roadsurface!
Virtsu, Estonia pajas... some of the countryside, as well as improved our Estonian and ice skating abilities, so not all was lost to the weather. Next entry -> Stockholm Great Brands of the World - Estonia Estonia has a bunch of great branding - it's just hard to know what any of it says or means. Here's something in English which may or may not be from Estonia, but is pretty cute anyway.
Haapsalu, Estonia technotrekker... We visited Padise Klooster, the ruins of an ancient monastery and we climbed the stairs to the top (not so easy) to get a great view of the surroundings. Then we went to the beautiful beach near Kurkse where the sand really sings ! I thought Ele was exaggerating, but it really sings, when you walk on it, the friction of the sand making the most delicate sounds. No wonder these Estonians always get good points at the Eurosong Festival ;-) I didn't have my ...
