Up just after 6 this morning and got dressed and packed up our bags before going down to breakfast at 7. A pretty miserable day today, rainy and cold. Had some boiled eggs on a roll and a ham and cheese croissant before heading back to the room to finish packing. Our bus was picking us up at 8 so we took our bags down and checked out and the bus turned up as we did this. Jumped on board and we were on our way. I closed my eyes, not sure if I slept much most ...

Yesterday took us to several little towns, including Honningsvag which at N 070^58,7 is the northernmost town we disembark at. It was Sunday and many of the locals were heading to church in traditional costumes. Here we found a talented artist using the natural surroundings as well as debris from the Arctic Ocean as inspiration for her work. We took a little piece away with us! And then our final evening on board and our last view of ...

I did not sign up for any of the organised excursions from the ship because they were either too active, too expensive or just not my cup of tea. Instead of busing to the Russian border or standing in driving sleet at the northerly most point of Europe I set up my corner of the Panorama Bar for a leisurely painting session. Thanks to my purchase of a ship's mug which comes with unlimited fillings of tea ...

We docked at 9 and waited in Kirkenes for our bus at 2pm. The 5 hour bus trip across to Murmansk was interesting as was Murmansk! All the apartments are drab, dark as is the city but once inside our apartment we were pleasantly surprised. We also found a great local restaurant which was cheap and had good ...

Marsh, march, sneeze, slap - the tundra?

The trip took 28 hours all in all... The landscape became a blur and we slept as much as we could, sneezing and sniffing through the better part of the journey. No doubt about it, we were both ill as you can get, after a city of hardly any sleep and constant abuse of our bodies. I was coughing my lungs out, leading to sneezing fits to be finished up by a flourish and trumpet. Snot factories, the both of us.
We got off the train to be ID'd for the first time. The ...
