    The Snow Hotel

Well what can you say....imagine the best sleep in the coldest cooldroom, with a bunch of strangers and you're almost halfway there. What an experience!

The lead up was also a complete hoot as we had organised a bus trip to a remote area to view the northern lights. Unfortunately the cloud cover put paid to out ideas, but our ever resourceful ...

Meeting the Snow Hotel and King Crabs

It was sad to say goodbye to the MS Finnmarken, but we were glad to have some terra firma underneath our feet. That being said, the snow at the Snow Hotel was thick and bountiful. Thanks to my purchase of a ship's mug which comes with unlimited fillings of tea ...

We docked at 9 and waited in Kirkenes for our bus at 2pm. The 5 hour bus trip across to Murmansk was interesting as was Murmansk! All the apartments are drab, dark as is the city but once inside our apartment we were pleasantly surprised. We also found a great local restaurant which was cheap and had good ...

Marsh, march, sneeze, slap - the tundra?

A travel blog entry by gabador on Aug 13, 2009

The trip took 28 hours all in all... The landscape became a blur and we slept as much as we could, sneezing and sniffing through the better part of the journey. No doubt about it, we were both ill as you can get, after a city of hardly any sleep and constant abuse of our bodies. I was coughing my lungs out, leading to sneezing fits to be finished up by a flourish and trumpet. Snot factories, the both of us.
We got off the train to be ID'd for the first time. The ...
