... took us on a tour of the local areas that might be of interest at 10 o'clock at night. It would appear that fronting up to the Russian border checkpoint would rate high on the list, so we stood and waved at Mr Putin. Can we just say that Jeanette was an absolute delight for our stay at the Snow Hotel. She was the ultimate guide - knowledgeable, ...

Meeting the Snow Hotel and King Crabs

All the apartments are drab, dark as is the city but once inside our apartment we were pleasantly surprised. We also found a great local restaurant which was cheap and had good ...

Marsh, march, sneeze, slap - the tundra?

The trip took 28 hours all in all... The landscape became a blur and we slept as much as we could, sneezing and sniffing through the better part of the journey. No doubt about it, we were both ill as you can get, after a city of hardly any sleep and constant abuse of our bodies. I was coughing my lungs out, leading to sneezing fits to be finished up by a flourish and trumpet. Snot factories, the both of us.
We got off the train to be ID'd for the first time. The ...
