After I spent six days in Kiev, I took a train to Odessa where I will meet the tour group.
If you recall, my luggage was delayed, and after 6 days of wearing the same clothes I arrived with, I had already bought new clothes, a new suitcase, and lots of other stuff because I had assumed my luggage was gone forever. Which would've been a shame because I had all my nice clothes in there and a new digicam. However, the VERY day when I needed to take the train to Odessa, the airport called ...
Londonskaya Hotel Room 207 A plaque outside the door reads: "In February 1901 Anton Chekhov was in Odessa on his way back from Florence to Yalta. We were sitting at the Londonskaya Hotel and he, worrying and coughing, was telling the shocking story of what happened to him at Odessa customs." Room 326 "...we were sitting in the Londonskaya Hotel room. The dinner was funny and easygoing. After the dinner the table was cleaned and the accompianist sat to the piano. Yes, I was there on the famous Potemkin Stairs. In fact, I climbed down them, but there is a little cable car that carries you back up, if you wish to avoid walking. Which is what I did.
I was in quest of a cheaper ferry service from Odessa to Istanbul, but..nada. The only one I could find charges 180usd to use. That's the least expensive bunk. So....around the horn by ...

Odessa, Texas, United States kimbereleyI don't remember much about this trip other than what I already wrote in the description. It was hot. I got sunburned. There were dogs. There was a kayak team. We took a train and traveled in a sleeper car. But it was a good old soviet sleeper car that had no private compartments, but about twenty bunks (or so) in ...
Odessa, Ukraine beatab... me two hours to get one ride which was only like 10km and since I was on a time budget I decided to bus it through Serbia. Well I took a bus to the capital (Belgrade) which put me there at 5am where i then took a bus out of town to try hitch hiking again. Well it didn't exactly work too well and so i just took another bus to the border, changed buses again and headed towards Romania. This is the bus trip that would prove to be an interesting adventure however ...
Odessa, Ukraine dylanboyleThis morning, we started out at the Las Cruces Veterans Memorial Park for a Wreath Laying. This is a beautiful park. My cousin, Russell Platt's name is on the wall - he was killed in Vietnam, and was living in Las Cruces when he was deployed. During the ceremonies, the weather turned ugly again - looks like another rainy day. It rained off and on, but not too hard. During the day, 'New York' told me that my tail light was out - I had ...

Midland, Texas, United States cainrvtripWe took it easy today and caught our breath around the pool. Tonight we went to a Baseball game (the Midland Rockhounds - assisted by Rocky their mascot - beat the Wichita Wranglers) - it was great to see a game live and to soak up the atmosphere. We followed up this with a trip (in Jane's convertible) to a drive in movie where we saw Underdog. great movie - pity about the mosquitos !!!
Midland, Texas, United States athboybrowns... which was well used until the rain came. We love the rain over here as it doesn't last too long and keeps the temperature down to a manageable 30 - 35 degrees C. Despite the fact that the 10 year drought has now officially ended I get the feeeling sometimes that (as in Ireland) the locals have had enough of the rain. Met some of Kevin's rugby teammates - Thurs is a training night but there seemed to be a number of MadDogs hanging out around THE bar during training !!
