Moscow Day 1

Day 1 - Moscow - Arrival: After taking off from Incheon (Seoul) Internattional Airport, cold and windy day, what was a clear and sunny. Leaving at 2:30pm, with a 9:30 hours of traveling to Moscow, I assumed the plane would be chasing the sun and there would be sunlight at Moscow which had us landing at 6pm. To my surprise, it was dark early (4pm), so I assumed as the flight continued my arrival would be at night and most probably cold. I arrived at the Sheremetyevo - Terminal 2 Airport (impor...

Moscow Day 2

Day 2, 22nd November the morning after I arrive in Moscow, my reception to Moscow (the airport) was cold and what appears it had been snowing from the snow on the ground and the ice formed from the snow that can be seen in the photos. Russia's day or I should say the sun light rises at about 8:30am and the day sets about 4pm. The Izolomov - Delta Hotel is very busy and accommodates all travelers. The breakfast that they put on is a banquet (fresh friut, ceral, bread, hot and cold food, juice...

Surreal

Moscow is stunning. It's more urban than St. Petersburg with a population of 11 million. The sense of history is monumental. We were there for 10 days in the amazing Izmailov hotel, and visited many tasty restaurants as well as the sites. Red Square is gorgeous! St. Basil's Cathedral is opposite a gorgeous red-brick museum, and the Kremlin faces Gum, Russia's largest department store. Lenin's mausoleum is on the wall of the Kremlin. That was probably the craziest place we visited. It's this A...

The new capital

... and in a way more 'real'. More spread out, more money around (you can see the difference in the types of cars on the roads). In general people were a bit more accepting/patient with tourists in Moscow and their were churches and cathedrals everywhere - I got used to putting on a skirt (over my jeans) and headscarf to enter - not quite sure how much of a state I looked at times but that's obviously not important. A quick mention of one challenge I had here - buying railway ...

Banya and Russian hospitality

... But it is good! I felt safe walking home late at night and the only people I was trying to avoid was the police. This I think I already talked about in my previous entry. Well, I think this is it for general comments for now. I will be getting on the train to Kazan in a few hours (at 10pm) and I am thinking of taking one last stroll around the city. I didn't get to do much on Moscow. I saw the sights and walked around a lot. I got to know the centre, Arbat, Kitay ...

Welcome to Mother Russia!

There is a huge village set up for the Champions League Finals between Manchester United and Chelsea and I walk around the entire area and take in the sights before heading to the metro to make my meeting with Svetlana. On the way to meet Svetlana, I do a tour of the Moscow metro ...

I swear, the hats in Russia....man...I feel like I'm in Paris, but instead of shoes, the fashion statement is CHAPKAS (hats)! Big furry ones mainly. Most of the men I saw wore the big furry ones...very pretty! After the 5 hours of nothingness, I go up and walked around ...
