... St Basils Cathedral, the Lenin Library, Tomb of the unknown soldier, etc etc from the outside but a lot of stuff is closed on Mondays so will see them all properly when stuff is open tomorrow. St Basil's cathedral in particular is amazing - apparenty Ivan the Terrible was so pleased with it when it was done that he had the eyes of the architect removed so that he could never build anything else to rival it ever again ...
Moscow, Central Russia, Russian Federation ristohannah... Michael. He was extremely knowledgeable and had a pleasingly dry sense of humour - evidently a rare quality in Russian people. He also had a very impressive mop of hair - dad would be jealous!

The trip tooks us on the Metro once more, stopping at various stations across the city, each one intricately decorated with mosaics, stained glass, chandeliers or bronze statues - some ...

Qued for Lenin's tomb in front of the portable metal detecrtors again for about 20 mins only for them to close the tomb. When asked why was confronted by more nyets. Getting the train tonight - will tell you about our adventures when we get off in 3 days time! Anna is concerned what her hair will look like after 3 days without a shower!
Moscow, Russian Federation annakins64The Kremlin is the stronghold of a city. Moscow's Kremlin was first built in the 1150s and has seen many changes. Today, the Kremlin is the seat of government for all of Russia. Tourists are allowed inside the Kremlin walls. This is quite a treat. There are numerous cathedrals and each is amazing in its own right. Past Tsars are buried here as are old patriarchs of Moscow. Some of the tombs date back to the 1100's. Unfortunately, photographs weren't permitted inside any of the ...
Moscow, Central Russia, Russian Federation kathryn.russell... market apparently the place to go to find souvenirs or antiques. We were initially disappointed when we walked through stalls of old clothes until we realised that these were just itinerant affairs outside the market proper. Once through the gates, we entered a bizarre world, a sort of Russian Disneyland built in a medieval fashion. There were hundreds of wooden stalls, all crammed with all the usual and many unusual things to buy. There were ladies in traditional ...
Moscow, Central Russia, Russian Federation ziniandlulu... if we could have found the ******* thing. Now I know what you're thinking, "ask someone you Muppets!" We were a little way out of the city and couldn't find anyone who understood English. Once we had found the word "market" in Russian no one knew where it was. So it was back to the city centre for a look see. We had a few hours to kill and settled in to a nice cafe where we could dose up on caffeine and believe it or not, Karin could smoke inside. We then made our way back to ...
Moscow, Central Russia, Russian Federation karinandshayne... Cubans in a specialised humidor room, Dominicans, etc. just on ordinary shelves (perfectly appropriate!). Plenty of jewelry for sale as well as watches, cameras, iPods, etc, etc, etc. All that kept me interested for about 15 minutes. After which I went to look for a seat - not an easy task. Dubai airport is enormous and there are lots of seats, the problem was the majority of the seats were occupied, as well as much of the available floorspace. The entire airport ...
Moscow, Russia winston... the hall, and showers down another hallway. There was a small cafe on our floor along with a fancier(read: slightly better than basic) dining room beside it. Both served exactly the same food in each. Russian breakfasts are hearty ones and if you're not used to eating in the morning like me, a little hard to get used to. At home i like coffee and thats it. In russia, i have taken to drinking tea in the morning instead of these little expresso things they give you ...
