... particular restaurant as a dinner option. While oriented to Fountains Square, the area was a parking lot. Update things, Lonely Planet! A bit more meandering included the MUM department store. It had an air of one back home in the 1980's.

Did en route see a couple of spots we might try for dinner. Feeling collectively tired, we headed back, stopping at Liva Coffe for a coffee [15AM]. My latte was fine.

... to Azeri . The TVs show a lot of Turkish programs which people follow without a problem. Azeris feel a close affinity with Turkey, which I actually find refreshing. So many of the other former colonies of the Ottoman Empire seem to just focus on the negative aspects of the Ottoman rule--which I'm sure was real. But it's still nice to see a different attitude.

Then the 3rd language is Russian, which is not just to to it's Soviet past. Russia is the place to go ...

... to close and standing next to the volcanoes because you would never know which ones were going to spurt. If you were unlucky you would be covered in thick grey mud - totally harmless but would cause you a problem getting yourself clean!!


Perhaps because of the time of day we were not treated to a spurt but more of a gurgle. It was great fun none the less.

... We all wandered out for an evening along the boardwalk with drinks, dinner and bumper cars – a yummy meal of meat and veggies called Sadj, served on a metal plate heated below with hot coals.

The morning was filled with filling in visa applications, getting a bus, getting lost finding the Turkmenistan embassy, standing around waiting for entry then we all left the crew with the passports, cash and applications to wait ...
