... My dreams of luxury crushed once again, I made myself a cup of tea, crawled up onto my bunk, opened a block of chocolate and escaped into Anna Karenina. Thankfully the mum and kid went to sleep fairly soon. After a while I did the same, although the heating must've been turned up cos I was sweltering all night.

Russian train stations are typically colourful and well preserved, reading the departure board was reasonably easy too, the only trick is that the timings are in Moscow time so you need to be on the ball with that detail. The usual service stop and having missed our staple lunch at Baikal world, we opt for a healthy ice cream. Most of the people in the services are staring at us so we venture outside to find 2 dogs also quite happy to stare (but more at the ice cream). Paranoid ...
