It only lasted 2 days and was in response to Gorbachev appointing a Russian as President of Kazakhstan. Several people were killed ad more were arrested. We then drove to St. Nicholas' Cathedral. ... a 5km walk to visit a local family. The sun shone from a clear sky but we had a fierce wind which mad the day feel like a Canberra cold winter's day. The walk was across the field I had ridden across yesterday and w encountered all sorts of life; squirrels, yaks, gers with people doing their tasks, horses, lazy dogs etc. very nice.
