... I went to the Health Center on campus (thank God for them). My fever was 39.6 degrees Celsius (which roughly comes out to 103.3 degrees Fahrenheit). It is probably a good thing that I did not go to my exam, despite how guilty I felt. The doctors and nurses were really funny – wonderfully worried. They kept saying, "Kristina, you are dying!" They gave me some fever drink and some pills. Then they gave me an IV, right there in the Health Center. I was too ...

Now, Nursultan Nazarbayev is debating whether to have Kazakh language written in Latin script, like Turkic and like Uzbek (the Uzbeks made the switch several years ago). The reason for this would be to separate itself more from Russia and to use the world script: Latin letters. Using the international script would ...

As evidenced by the myriad of regional organizations they have initiated and joined since independence, they want to be part of a bigger idea. They want to belong to a group that they can associate with. They are not European and they are not Asian. This puts them in a very confusing place someplace in between two well-established worlds,; they find themselves in a place that they, and the rest of Central Asia, must define for themselves.

The exchange students are here studying at KIMEP for a semester or two, then will return to their home universities to complete their degrees. Regular students are those who have come to KIMEP to earn a degree. I am considered a regular student. Most students are exchange students. We have international students from Nepal, Hungary, Germany, South Korea (the vast ...

I spoke to the hotel security and mimed welding to him and he called up one of the maintenance men. This guy was 70 or so and he looked at my bike ans said yes. He mae a small fillet of metal to weld to the bike and I was impressed. When he started to weld though things changed drastically. He reminded Tim of Andrew Previn the conductor! His weld was not tidy but ...

Time is the main factor because if you get caught in bad weather on a bad road then progress is extremely slow. And sometimes you may need to insist for safeties sake. The motorways are 1st class but can sometimes become roadworks without any ...
