We made it home safely. The -21 C temperature coming off the plane last night was a little bit of a shock to the system. We were delayed by the snow in Toronto but luckily the held our flight from Edmonton to Fort Mac for us. We look forward to seeing everyone again and sharing a few pictures with you. André & Gina
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada vincethepinceAlright, so after spending most of the night watching the Broncos get blown out, I am pretty much done packing. Follow along with our trip as Gina and I head out to the long lost continent of Madagascar. I'll try to keep the blog up to date as best as I can based on internet availability. The cab comes at 4:30am...time for bed. André
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada vincethepinceStill at work in Fort McMurray, just counting down the days. The days are already getting noticeably shorter. The days of 24 daylight are over. The mornings are getting crisper. Fall is definitely on it's way. I think Chase has lost his mind up at Diavik. We're ready for a vacation!!
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada chaseandandriaAs we pack our bags, check our lists and get things in order it is only a week before we leave. This entry is to serve only as a test that this blog and the address book is working. We hope to be able to do some entries once we leave on our journey. Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada frostyrunnerFt. Mcmurray is about 4 hours north of edmonton. The only reason anyone is there is because there is about 5x the oil of saudi up there. There are really good steak houses and seafood, yes seafood this far from the ocean. Plan an evening if you need donuts, the line at tim horton's has been about a 30-60 min wait for 6 years at least now.
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada chitown-hepcats... time we actually get there! Most of our travel in Asia is likely to be by rail, bus, bicycle, or, again, hitchhiking (or camel, or elephant...we rule nothing out!)! I think of our most exciting excursions with be climbing Mount Fuji (although I'm certainly not fit enough to do it in this condition!!). Next, into Europe - the backpacker-friendly hotspot. Here, we plan to see every country (even teeny-tiny Andorra!). Because of the outlandish prices of most Western ...
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada sarahjean... Our last break was spent basically hanging around with no car and watching movies like Disturbia, the Simpsons and The Condemned. Oh, and just for you guys, I've included pictures of what Sierra and I come home looking like after a day of work. These were taken on a CLEAN day. You should see us on a DIRTY day. We're heading home this Thursday and driving straight through to ...
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada jphaarsma... since they were rained on with 'mystery substance'.

The plant has finally concluded that this may pose safety concerns. Work in that area is being shut down for now. Ofcourse this means plenty o' layoffs a comin'. Our Forman tells us that our crew is safe for the time being, but who really knows. I can't complain really; I am 6 weeks into a 2 week call. Still, longer would be better. Like always though, I will go with the flow and trust things to work out.
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada findingnine... for me. Dane was ordering 'Lady Killers' - a shot of double Jack followed by a Jager-bomb. Soo good. I'm pretty sure He made that up, but we kept ordering it as that and our waitress kept bringing 'em. Lots more white russians too ofcourse. MMMMany delicious drinks I had never had before. We later met our General Forman in the bar and invited him to join Team Ramrod (as we call ourselves at work) He explained that normally with 10 new hires, they split ...
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada findingnine... did not blow black stuff out my nose. I'll wear it again tomorrow. I cannot imagine it would be very comfortable in summer. Well, things change so fast out here, I won't worry about that just yet. Who knows where I'll be. Next weekend off I plan to go to Nampa, (near Peace River Alberta) instead of home. I hope that pans out. Even a local trip is fun, and great to break the routine. My friend Femke's Parents have a goat farm out there. Apparently it is kidding season. Can't wait!
