... me down of the hippy trip I discovered another rust hole in the floor plan just on the foot step up into the drivers side cabin.
Lizzie made an intereswting observation, we seem to be the only campers with a "hippy van"....in other words, we don't see any other real campers (either type T1/2, T25 or T4's). They all seem to be the retiree type vans or caravan and car set-ups.
So Lizzie writes, we drove to Karlstad which is the capital of Varmland. A nice city by the lake and ...
Karlstad, Swedish Lakeland, Sweden wizalll... grounds are stunning with its own little beach and wooded forest and the waters of lake vanern weren't too cold, we might even consider a dip later...

Our gorgeous serenity was then only ruined by 2 bus loads of high school students. Damn... ah well kind of nice to have some more people around.

We had a game of mini golf in the afternoon, it seems big over here as there is a course at every ...
Säffle, Värmland County, Sweden wizalllDespite the 8.00 am kick out of bed we still didn't leave the campsite until 12.30. Eitherway the sun was in abundnance and not a cloud in the sky. We headed north planning to visit the 3000 year old rock carvings at Tanumshede. Small detour was needed off the motorway however as the van was very low on juice and the prospect of running out on the motorway was worrying. We pulled into a sleepy town called Rabbelshede luckily to find the only shop in town was a service station ...
Säffle, Värmland County, Sweden wizalll... fish later in the week and he managed to catch a pike. We’ll eventually track down the photo for that one.

Friday was the annual mid-summer festival in Sweden. I think it is similar to solstice in the US. The towns in the country side have a big festival where people wear traditional dress and erect a large green 'stong’ into the earth and dance around it. They also eat lots of excellent traditional food like pancakes with ...
Karlstad, Swedish Lakeland, Sweden jamierand... for a second time. boring now! The highlight of the night was actually talking to the Swedish guy who sat next to me at the concert, we had a good chat about the history and whatnot of the Karlstad/Kristinehamn area and similarities between Norway-Sweden relations and NZ-Aus relations. I was jealous that he lived in Sweden. Back to Norway now. In truth I'm not exactly thrilled about this, but I think getting out of the cities will be a good idea so this is my intention! cheers, -mike
Karlstad, Swedish Lakeland, Sweden mikerickson... years old. thats quite old. Other than that I have been relaxing and enjoying the quaintness and pretty old town feel and cheap food... I can afford to eat again! There is a big event on here which has just started today, the annual go-kart races which go for four days. They race around the main town square with the finish line right outside the tourist office where I am now. I ...

Karlstad, Swedish Lakeland, Sweden danielwrinell19 minutes past midnight and we are leaving Karlstad by a bus that is taking us to Örebro, where we'll change to another bus that will take us to Stockholm Skavsta Airport in Nyköping. In about 17 hours we'll hopefully be in Innsbruck in some pub or fan-area where we can view the game between Sweden and Spain.
Karlstad, Swedish Lakeland, Sweden danielwrinell... errands. All the sidewalks were divided into bike and walking lanes, something we also would see in Stockholm and Helsinki. I am sure all the bike riders in the states would appreciate this. We were amazed at the variety of people riding - young to the very old. One very old man rode a bike with two front tires to keep his balance. After returning our bikes we rode the bus home and were impressed to learn that the bus ...
Karlstad, Sweden thetembas... and etc. Was it done on purpose for tourists only? Did the local actually do Ice Bar? There were 2 ice carvings - one of a cow and the other a modern art thingy. My hands were nearly numb from not wearing the gloves provided as I was working my Ixus 500 hard. The Ixus worked perfectly well for 30 minutes in minus temperature. When we came out, I had to rub my hands vigorously to warm it. We were going back to the hotel for dinner. After dinner, at about 9pm ...
